My '07 RT with integral ABS2 (non wizzy set up) has thrown up the dreaded 24048/24049 ABS pump motor errors, this is after having the brushes sorted around 12 months ago.
I'm told the fix was a once only opportunity, so I now have the decision to make on sourcing a used ABS pump from Motorworks or de-ABS route for a fraction of the cost.

The red light came on immediately after hitting a large pot hole in the highlands, hard on the brakes over a crest - so I suspect the ABS tried to kick in and the motor failed, either due to the shock of hitting the pothole, or just because the brushes jammed again.
Exercising the ABS with the GS-911 does nothing and the fault is constantly present, so it definitely needs sorting!

Anyone know of anybody who's done the brush fix a second time? I know it will be all about the casing, but I'm sure there should be a way to do it again?

Ta.

Hi Clem,
Not quite on topic of info you required.
But I bought an RT with ABS removed, recently the speedo has stopped working.
After investigations from BMW they have said I have to refit the ABS to fix the speedo at approx price £1800 due to speedo cable going into a module where the ABS should be.
Might be worth considering above for longer term.
Mine is an 05 model.

That sounds weird, the Speedo worked for a while before deciding not to?

On your model, the speed signal is generated by the electronics of the ABS unit so the mechanical element is removed and the electronic unit is retained.
Motorworks sell a blanking plate that enables you to protect the PCB etc when de-mounting it from the pump assembly.

I'm waiting for Motorworks to give me a price for both a good secondhand ABS pump and the alternative de-ABS kit.

Yes! Did around 10,000 then it gave up.
Replaced the rear sensor but was advised by BMW it due to no ABS- currently trying to work out how to get it fixed.

Ah ok, thanks for info Clem, didn’t know different unit. I’m not that tech savvy on bikes and have to use local dealer for a lot of stuff.

Why was having the brushes fixed a once only?

I replaced the motor on my ABS with one from a Ford Fiesta ABS unit bought of ebay. Part number CV21-2C405-EA. I cut of the tabs took out the motor and just dropped it straight into the BMW ABS unit, created new tabs, bleed the brakes then used the GS911 to bleed the ABS. Total cost was less than £60 and an afternoon of fun taking the bike apart. :D

I suspect the "once only" comment was from the independent specialist who did it because of how he will have reattached the motor to the unit.

Thanks for the confidence in the Ford fix, I think that will be the way forward once holidays and other commitments are over will be to get the bodywork & tank off and investigate how the current motor has been reattached to the ABS unit. I can then assess if it's going to be possible to graft a replacement motor on easily or not.

Motorworks do not have any secondhand units currently and they don't bother with a de-ABS kit on this spec of RT as an ABS failure only triggers the brake failure warning and has no impact on the brake performance (unlike the servo version).

The main challenge will be creating a decent mechanical mounting for the replacement motor.

Thanks for the advice.

Brake failure light on Gs1200 2007 adventure.

Hi all thanks for letting me join the group. It looks like the dreaded Abs pump brushes have stuck or worn out. It’s been on a diagnostic machine & it said there was power to the pump .I am motorcycle mechanic but new to the Gs 1200 adventure ,only had it a month.Phoned Motorworks they said they did not have a solution for it on that year & no second hand pumps.Don’t now if it’s because it’s can bus.?.Going to strip it & see if I can fix it.what do you guy’s suggest thanks Rick.
