Stupid question but...

I've been using Abus Granit Quick 37 disc locks on most of my bikes as primary form of safety for many, many years.

To avoid having the lock in my backpack when traveling shorter distances in the city, etc. I did (only now) install the mounting bracket on my GSA.
I might have done this wrong and mounted the bracket with the lock's keyhole facing the rear of the bike.
One wet trip in Wales last May, forgetting to close the little plastic flap that secures the keyhole... and I properly buggered it.

Spent a decent amount of time with WD40, compressed air, 3 in 1 oil and so on... and managed to get going again. But it got stuck again lately. I've had this particular lock for probably 19 years... so I just replaced it. No biggie.

Now the question is: since it will definitely happen that people forget to close the little plastic flap/blind on the lock... is there better places where to mount the bracket? Will mounting the lock in the other direction do the trick? Is it enough just that?
