Does anyone have any idea why MyRoute wouldn’t let me extend a route up a road to the car park in Chimay, please?

I can only assume that MyRoute thinks it’s a no entry?

Thank you.

Hi

I've looked at the same location and get the same result,

I've tried it on similar locations local to myself and don't think it because it's a no entry but more likely to be an un-adopted highway or an un-recognised highway.

I do know MyRoute has a forum that I have used in the past, which was quite helpful

Yes I’ve just looked at that too.... google street maps shows it looks like a path to a building ( casino ) it has got cones on the image when taken, blocking the entry I’d say it is an un adopted street too.

This is the entry to the road, complete with road markings and a highway sign….

Probably an unrecognised highway.

It’s routable in Kurviger….

I am now wondering what would happen if the Kurviger GPX route was imported into MyRoute.

Nope. I can't get it to go into the carpark either. Not using any of the map choices. It will route right up to the car park entrance, but no further. Probably not classified as a road.

I've also just tried the same on a local car park and it's the same behaviour, it will route right up to the entrance, but no further.

So it will take you nicely to car park entrances, but not to specific bays in them. That's probably OK for me!

Indeed so.

Le Casino, the name of the restaurant, isn’t listed on MyRoute’s usually very good search function but it’s shown on some of the drop down map layers, along with the car park. I use the restaurant quite a lot when going to the Ardennes, as it’s a convenient lunchtime stop having left Calais that morning.

I can’t now remember if the access road is routable (or the restaurant listed) in BaseCamp. If it isn’t, you could always force the magenta line along it by inserting an ‘off-road’ section into the route.

If you zoom into the sign in Streetview it says the car park is private for brasserie clientele only so maybe excluded from some datasets.

That’s probably right, Wessie. Certainly the car park is the domain of the restaurant. I suspect the first 10 to 20 meters off the highway is public road, then private to the front of the restaurant.

More than anything, I was interested to see what roads are / aren’t routable in MyRoute. As a new participant to MyRoute I have been mucking about, creating trial routes, just to get the hang of it. The routes I created all took in places and roads I was familiar with, just so I could see where any anomalies occurred. Then I’d tried to work out why.

I am now wondering what would happen if the Kurviger GPX route was imported into MyRoute.

I now know the answer…..

I created the basic route in Kurviger to include a trip up the road to the Casino restaurant. I then Airdropped the GPX file across to my iPhone. I then opened the file in BMW’s Connected app, where it displayed perfectly.

I also opened it in Garmin’s Drive app (it was perfect) and from there exported it into my XT, where it was perfect, too.

I guess the only useful thing about finding this out is if someone needs to send a precise route to someone, for example to take them as close as possible to the Casino restaurant, up a road that is not normally navigable, then they can maybe use Kurviger (which will allow the unnavigable road to be included) to create the route and then export it into whatever other app they like. It should work.

I think it depends on the data the map has. I had a problem a couple of years ago with Kurviger, I think, that wouldn’t let me navigate into a ferry terminal. This was because the road had the wrong flag, marked as no access. I contacted the map author and it was fixed on the next release.
