Planning a trip to Istanbul in September, I’m looking for secure parking and decent accommodation . Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best place to get such advice if you don’t get anything on here.

When we went on the Turkey Trot, I seem to remember that we just parked on the street. The hardest thing was finding the hotel, which I (as tour dad) was in charge of. Happy days.

PS It’s a moslem country. They chop the hands off thieves. It stops all crime. We should do it in the UK. I read it here.

PPS We stayed at the Turkoman hotel, just behind the Blue Mosque, not far from the Hagia Sophia.

Istanbul is like any large city so its not crime free. However, in 10 years I never had any issues with parking my motorcycle on the street.

If you are heading for the Sultanahmet area there are very few under cover car-parks.

Accommodation can clearly range from the basic up to the Fours Seasons ; the Mavi Ev hotel is pretty decent:

We also stayed in the Hotel Turkoman, which is very central indeed. A really friendly place with great hosts.
Bike was happily parked on the street for a few days. A very happy cat sat on guard on it most of the time and was a bit miffed when he was evicted for the off..

PS Road cone was not mine.
