Fairly new to me 1150 gsa
2005
53k miles

For the first time yesterday, clutch slipped whilst overtaking in 5th
This happened twice, over 160 mile ride.

I’m assuming, despite the minimal slippage… it’s stuffed!?

Not a job I have time, or space, to do myself. So, any advice or ideas of where to get it done cost effectively in Devon/Cornwall?

Any idea of cost, assuming it needs a new friction plate and maybe slave cylinder?

Edit… while writing this, I had a call back from a local bmw specialist who can do it for me

What is the cost of this job at the specialist?

It could be the clutch but the bonding between the 2 sections of the driveshaft can start to fail with very similar results. If you undo the clips on the rear rubber gaiter and look up into the tunnel housing the driveshaft if it is failing there may be small specks of rubber on the inner wall. Also check the clutch lever is not being fouled by the hand guard, stopping it fully releasing.

Thanks…

I just can’t get it to slip again though, 70 odd miles today and no slips, no matter how hard I tried to replicate the revs etc

The first sign of a failing clutch is always in top gear with the taps wide open and seeing the revs rise faster than the speedo.

My 1200GSA clutch slipped in 5th/6th when on the gas shortly after I bought it (used) with 10k on it. Bahnstormer said if the clutch was faulty they would fix under warranty but if it was an oil seal leaking I would have to pay the full amount myself at around £1200.

I bought the parts and replaced it myself (the parts alone for the 1200 clutch is £450 but better than £1200.) there was no contamination but it was badly glazed. I've since had it apart again and rebuilt my gearbox so I threw a new friction plate in it this time for peace of mind although it was hardly worn.

If you have got 53k on your clutch I guess it may be time to replace it. Some folk get more, some less but its had a decent innings.

Have you lubed up the clutch cable? Make sure the clutch lever is returning.

I had a similar issue, I was doing some off roading using the clutch a lot. Then experienced clutch slip

Once lubed, clutch is fine
