Very impressed with the Bumot Defender panniers on my 2012 triple black GS. They have survived European trips with ease plus the inevitable offs during a trip to S America. Decided to replace the Vario top box with Bumot equivalent to reduce the risk of plastic bracket failure from the pounding on unmade surfaces. However I am concerned about the Bumot 4 bolt fixing to the seat subframe. The limited thread engagement of the fixings seems marginal. The arrangement seems much less substantial than OE bracketry, particularly with the amount of overhang and it’s pronounced cantilever effect. A pillion leaning against the top box will only add to the stress.

Would be very interested to read about the experiences of other users. I’m thinking of adding some angled brackets to make use of two additional threaded holes in the seat subframe. Another alternative is to pick up on the pannier brackets which have proven to be bomb proof!
