K1300 GT top box problem

My top box doesn’t want to open. I can turn the key and the handle pops out but the locking plate won’t release its hold on the lid. My local VMW dealer tells me I would need to buy a new top box as they wouldn’t be able to fix it (even though this was only a telephone conversation)
Does anyone know how I can get this fixed? A new top box is an arm and a leg.

I am not familiar with the box but, I assume it has a hinge? If so, cam you drill the bolts / rivets out and maybe jiggle the lid open from there? Then mend.

I had an r1200rt with similar problem.

Same top box near enough.
Take box off bike.
Hit the unlock button.
Handle jumps out.
Turn it upside down.
Peer into gap behind handle.
With luck, you will see that a 6mm round pin has gone absent without leave.
If so, pop in a 6mm bolt to open top box.
Replace original circlipped pin with 6mm stainless bolt and self locking nut.
There is a thread on this somewhere around 10 years ago.
