Italian lakes...

A sight to improve any good hotel lobby...that is where they insisted we park...Petes RT is on the other side.

After bread we are heading along to the port for a shuttle across to Sirmione....beautiful day but a bit blowy....which makes the temperature perfect .....and good for a washing!

They've got the water transport sorted...we're just waiting for a shuttle across to Sirmione.
Desenzano is an attractive town for sure.

Looks a smart area and decent weather. Lucky you took staff with you for all the little chores

It must be nearly 40 years since I visited Maggiore. We were camping in the scouts and enjoying much swimming until we saw an adder swim ashore with a fish in its fangs....bit more careful about swimmi g then!

So aday touristing on and off boats...Sirmione where at last I saw a good supply of swifts....sadly not many seen the last couple of years at home.

My hip was giving me gyp so the others went tramping round on foot and I went oligarching round the island in a smaller craft.

The driver was keen to point out Maria Callas' house, and the remains of the huge roman villa, apparently the largest roman ruin in northern Italy.

The boat took us to, and through, the old castle...and theen it was lunchtime....a very acceptable caesar salad...

Sirmione is a very pretty...and very busy... place.

When I started planning this trip I looked at hotels here but decided not, as it looked just too busy....I was right, far better staying elsewhere and visiting on a boat.

Magnificent ice cream shops with enormous choice....

Loving the hip..sorry, trip report Gerard ;)

Weather looks perfect for where you are and what you want to do..Vitamin D, beer and good food :thumb2

So Sunday!

Another day touristicking beckons!

A donder along the prom into the old port and another boat.

The all day, all lake, tickets are good value at 34.30....same as a tank of juice....ish.

Have to say the notion of riding a bike in very busy conditions in this heat is not attractive! We've done over a thousand miles to get here and the same on the way back, so not feeling very guilty about abandoning bikes for a few days...

Lake Garda has much to offer, and nearly all of it best seen by boat
