Well, I was looking forward to a ride today, but spent the morning cleaning hydraulic fluid off the garage floor as the rear shock had emptied itself :(

I've booked it in with JD Racing for the 19th (The earliest they can give me a courtesy bike to get me back home), but I was told that KTM don't offer a repair kit and only offer a new shock at a price that the young lady said would "give you a heart attack". I have already had a heart attack, so no thanks.

I will now start trawling the net for alternatives, and will probably take this opportunity to re-spring for my weight.

Does anyone have any suggestions? "Lose weight" is not an acceptable answer :)

Further to this, KTM say that a new shock is £751 and I think that is a bit pricey - a Nitron R1 is £519.

The search continues.

Take it to a shock specialist and ask them if it fixable. The fact that KTM don't do a repair kit doesn't mean the parts are not available.

Thanks for that - I have found a supplier who will do a refurb, but I have decided to go with the Nitron R1 and then send the old shock off for refurb as a backup. The reviews say that I won't regret the upgrade and it's an opportunity to get the shock set up for my weight.

It just means 3 - 4 weeks with no bike. . . unless I nip out and buy another one as a spare :) Where's that lottery win when you need it?

You could still bounce around on it.

Look what just arrived. . .
