And so into Valdez which is a fascinating little place. A bit touristy but none the worst for that. Did you know it has 7ft of rain and 16ft of snow per annum but thankfully, the sun gods were generous and it was wall to wall sunshine when we got there.

It's always worth riding around the bay to see the salmon running into the hatchery. It's a very interesting project where they breed the salmon here and let them out so they can have there natural life span out in the open water. They return here when it's time to spawn as they would do in nature but here they are harvested for fertiliser after being milked for eggs. The salmon are inedible at this stage so it's not wasted and the eggs are hatched so the process begins again.

It's a wonderful idea which helps keeps healthy fish in the oceans and ecosystem, gives fisherman some great sport and provides good healthy fish for us to eat. It's a win win.

After a nice evening stroll around the harbour, it was across to Nats Snack Van for the best fish tacos in town,

It's hour wait for food here but the tacos are superb and well worth the wait in the evening sunshine.

After the border crossing, it's straight onto the Top of the World Highway which is one of the worlds most stunning rides as long as it's not raining.

It's didn't disappoint today that's for sure:cool:

Done it in rain and fog. Done it the other direction in sunshine.

Sunshine is better...

After a good night in Valdez where Gordon and Mel somehow got lost and couldn't find the hotel. Drink may have been involved but I can't comment.....:beerjug:

After a crappy motel breakfast, we headed back out of Valdez and as there is only one way in and one way out, we have to ride out on that fantastic road that we came in on.

We stop for fuel at this great old store with one pump which must be decades old.

This is called Kenny Lake and is the old fuel and food stop for miles and miles.

And it was onwards on a dirt road towards McCarthy mine. There was no way we could get to the mine in the time we had available but there is a wonderful steel bridge about 50 miles in which is well worth a visit.

It's called Kuskulana Bridge and all it's vital stats are here https://www.nps.gov/places/000/kuskulana-bridge.htm

Any yet again, the views and scenery in the area are just mind blowing.

Nice to get some pics of the bikes and riders against these backdrops.

We arrived in a small town called Chitina and stopped for a coffee which turned out to be the worlds most expensive Hotdog. I thought Bob was going to have heart failure as he handed over $16 for a hot dog!!

Still, the scenery makes up for it.

Back to Terry Lake for a properly priced coffee, we bumped into Itchyboots one again. She's definitely stalking us and of that there is no doubt :D

Unbelievably, mine and Gazza's bodge has help up although the bike is handling terribly with hardly any damping in the forks. It doesn't slow her down though as she wrings the things neck most of the time and those little CRF's seem pretty unbreakable.

We would be in Anchorage in a couple of days so we firmed up plans to meet up with her and get her bike sorted at by mate Bill's. She had definitely chilled out after our first meeting and laughed about how we keep bumping into each other and she quite looks forward to it.

Gas top up at Glen Allen where a big bunch of Mexican bikers were fuelling and heading north. Like everywhere, everyone is friendly and chats away even though you can't understand a great deal.

Heading back to Anchorage now and we turn off the main drag to our motel by Lake Louise Lodge. The road to the lodge is pretty rough and it didn't help they were doing some construction which delayed us by 30 mins or so.

The Lodge is in an absolutely stunning location and and it's hard work this bike travel.

I remember talking to Austin Vince who was slagging of trips like mine as they weren't in the spirit of real adventure biking.

Lake Louise Lodge of a tent in a mosquito infested campsite?
