Finally having to give in and am considering an e bike.

Looking at a Haibike fitted with a Yamaha motor.

Now the most popular motor is by far a Bosch offering.

Has anybody got any experience or knowledge about Yamaha motors please?

Yes, I had one and two friends still have them. Very good kit.

We bought them instead of the Bosch option as we noticed the power kicked in quicker on the Yamaha. We also didn't like the tiny drive sprocket on the Bosch.

This is a few years ago now but I wouldn't have any hesitation buying a Yamaha again if I was buying another Ebike.

You won’t go far wrong with a haibike, I’ve had mine for a year now and use it every day. I fitted a speed box and it’s set at 21mph and it’s a pure joy to ride, don’t bother telling me it’s illegal, I know but it’s still great. It gives me a great workout keeping it going at that speed but is also easy enough that I don’t pass out after 100yds. Im just shy of 20st and it doesn’t bother it one bit even though I’m over the maximum weight limit for it. One thing I will say is, as with motorcycles keep an eye on all the nuts bolts and fasteners for the first few weeks as stuff does come loose. I got mine through Rutland cycles and it had a leaking front brake, they offered to take it back and sort but after a video they sent me a whole new brake setup as I said I was happy to fit it myself. Although mine is the Bosch motor I’ve heard nothing but positive reports about the Yamaha motor. All in all I love mine

I have a Giant Trance-E2 Pro mountain bike with a Yamaha motor, used most weekends for trail riding since 2019. It’s a fantastic piece of kit, so glad I was persuaded to buy it over the Specialised Levo that I originally wanted. All the Levo owners I rode with have had warranty claims on their motors (Brose motors I think).

It’s Yamaha or Bosch for me.

Haibike are great bikes, I would happily buy one myself.

If you are buying new have a look at Trek, they use Bosch motors, I have one and the missus has a Yamaha, the Bosch is streets ahead

One of my cycling mates has had a Haibike, it’s 4 or 5 years old and he doesn’t look after it much and it’s used most days. No problems at all.

I've had my TREK Allant +5 (Bosch motor) for three months now. Firkin' loving it, wish I'd bought one sooner.

We’ve got 2 e bikes. One with Bosch and one with Yamaha motor.
Both very good and been reliable over nearly 3000 miles. Slightly different characteristics but both very good.
I believe the Yamaha motor is slightly cheaper to service but would be happy with either.
