We stayed in Puerto De La Cruz on the north coast in January. Whilst it is not a small place it is quiet and is not a resort in the same way as Los Christianos or Playa De Los Americas on the south coast, it is olde worlde and quite charming. Plus, it has a number of bike hire places at hand and lots of places of interest. We rented a Kawasaki Versys for a week and explored the Teide National Park and most of the island. We also met Simon Dippenhall as he was on the island at the same time. Be aware that whilst the temperature at sea level will be low to mid 20s when you get 2 kilometers high in the national park it drops to single figures quickly so take appropriate gear. We booked a package holiday with Tui and stayed half board at the H10 4* hotel and it was about £1500 all in for a fortnight for the two of us including flights so very good value.
