German castles to visit - Mannheim to Bamberg

DFDS have suggested this as a tour in Central Germany https://www.dfds.com/en-gb/passenge...-driving-itineraries/german-castle-route-tour

this is a 270 mile segment of the full >600 mile route from Mannheim to Prague.

DFDS' route is all about the castles as some "days" are only a few miles

I have posted this as it gives an idea of places to stay in a part of Germany that is in an area about the right distance for an overnight stop on the way to/from further south.

It's also an area worthy of a few days in itself.

For some unknown reason, Germany (much beyond the ‘ring) is ignored by many Brits on motorbikes. It’s odd, as Germany has a very strong motorcycling population, way bigger than that of the UK.

This very basic screen shot from Pocket Earth shows how the route can, with a bit of imagination, join up with other suggested routes:

I did search but not good enough it seems as I thought it had cropped up before

I went to Germany last year in early May. Baden wine region. Lovely it was.

Probably going again this year at a similar time and was looking for somewhere east of Luxembourg. My touring group likes Germany, some of whom have lived there in the past. As well as being a pleasant place to visit the prices are very good value compared to France & Belgium.
 
Bamberg is a nice historic city which seems to have largely escaped the damage of WW2. Monastery brewery there too.
Rothenburg ob Tauber and Dinkelsbuhl also both pretty towns to wander round.
 
The full castle route starts in Mannheim and leads you all the way to Prague in the Czech Republic and is around 745 miles. i think i may have the full gpx somewhere if anyone needs it.

sorry chaps just picked this up will sort it as soon as possible. and of course share it.
 
As promised link to German castle route i have also added the Czech half of the route and put waypoints in for the castles, the waypoints maybe in the carpark to the castles or on an adjacent road very close. the German side of the route i have not bothered as there is plenty of info out there for these, also it will give you something to do (practice).
The route is in GPX format and is a route and not a track, if anyone wants a track i have it. Link for route below. track below that

Well , I’m currently planning 50 Welsh castles ( as done in ABR magazine ) this year , but this route looks fab . Thank you Lee
