Hi Gents, Me and my mate are off on our first trip into Germany in September. Have any of you stayed in Cochem in a decent hotel near to a good food and pub, and if so would you be so kind as to tell me where? I read with interest Wapping's massive contribution to the German section here and I thank him for his efforts……Cheers gents, Ian

I seem to remember that Doc of this parish went there not long ago, might be worth giving him a shout.

Thank you for the kind words, appreciated.

I’ll move this request to the new accommodation sub-section, dedicated to Germany.

I have started you a separate fresh thread in the Nav V GPS section, to deal with the problem.

Generally speaking bike theft doesn’t seem to be such a big issue over in Europe. Don’t get fixated on it and spoil your holibobs.

Bikes get stolen everywhere.

That being said, it doesn’t require the German equivalent of Fort Knox. Just take a basic but good quality lock to use on your bike, exactly the same as you’d use when in the UK. Then use it. Do remember to take a spare key, just as you should for your bike itself.

Good luck! I hope you have better luck on your dates. Could not get accommodation in Cochem for our dates anywhere! Ended up in Koblenz. We were looking for two twin rooms....

Hotel Haus Sonnschein stayed a few years ago and it was well priced ,had a really nice restauarant, plus it is situated on the other side of the river from the town centre and had a large secure garage ( when we stopped there was our 4 bikes and 5 or 6 Johny Foreigners in the garage )

I stayed at Altes Winzerhaus last summer. Bike parked in their private area behind a padlocked chain nice and secure.
Walked along the front into town.
Good breakfast.

I stayed in Cochem last year, loved it.
The hotel we stayed at was a 2 minute walk from the town centre, fabulous rooms and a secure, locked garage underneath for push bikes and motorcycles.
I'll see if I can find where it was.

Edit: I'm pretty sure it was this place

What is “secure” for you?

I stopped here for a couple of nights. Had a wee garage alongside a Dutch couple. He used a disc lock, plus big chain on rear wheel. But left his GPS on the seat all night.

Everything still there next day.

I’ve never had a security issue in 6 Euro trips. Stopped lugging a cable lock long ago.

ps - the low headroom put a small chip on the top of my helmet one morning when I forgot to duck a bit

I usually only use my steering lock unless it's in a public car park.

Any particular reason you want to stay IN Cochem itself? I find it very busy, touristy and overpriced. There are so many other places within 15 mins drive from Cochem which offer better value for money.
Of course if Cochem is your preferred location than all of above is useful. I'd personally head a bit further up river or even inland.

They also have a small garage underneath the building where I parked my bike in 2015, although there were a lot of pushbikes in there too

I really like Cochem as it has plenty of bars no restaurants, plus the castle and lovely riverside walks
