Excellent...ta for that piccy Maria, it'll make Slimbo very happy :D

Great pics !!! ....just wasted an hour browsing them at work  ....but it's important research :nenau

All those camels - I thought someone would have taken a photo of one of their feet for Tuned In :D :D :D

A couple more pics to let you see what we were up to until we get the ride report done (the 35mm films are in and being put onto DVD so it may take some time to get it done ;) )

Kids are kids everywhere...hamming it up for the camera

Another refuelling stop, somewhere on the road from Mori to Senegal on our way to the border I think.
Lots of sand and heat, but good riding

This place is paradise....The Zebrabar, St Loius, Senegal.
An island in the river, a trust bar (drink, tick in book then pay when you leave) , sand, beach, river trip to St Louis, and our first rest day of the trip.

And to celebrate getting there, a rather tired Advrider salute :D

A rather emotional moment as we actually arrived at the hospital....tired, dirty, stinking, but very very happy.
Anita Smith (the lady who runs the Bansang Hospital appeal and an amazing driven woman) joined us on the main steps.

A fairly typical ward....they do their best but it's not a nice place to be.
Mozzy nets hanging, and the smell from the open toilets next door permeating throught the place.

Jaq and Anita in the children's ward...a really nice ward in comparison to the others but still dire.
This is really quiet...in the rainy season they get up to 4 kids in a bed, each with an escort on the floor, then more out in the corridoors.
It was cool as well...less than 40 degrees but it gets much much hotter in the summer.

Some of the medical kit and drugs we brought.....being checked through by a customs twat
54067269-M.jpg

And some of the bike spares...we knew we'd have to make any donations sustainable so we brought some spare engines, wheels etc, and left enough money with Riders For Health to maintain and service the bikes for at least a year.

Chilling in the evening and making friends
54067299-M.jpg

Speggo and I went down to Bansang Police headquarters to fix their solar power generator and charging system...in a political environment it was essential and they loved it, the Police commisioner for the whole district was ecstatic at having a working lightbulb again:huh

Dennis (A qualified bike instructor) teaching Mariama to ride..she's a full leg amputee and had never ridden a bicycle let alone a motorbike, so he had a challenging time :D

What Photos?

I can't see the photos - where they should be just has a notice saying "Monthly Limit Exceeded (4GB)".

Is this a limit imposed by UKGSer.com? Or is my ISP doing this somehow?

Robin.

Neither, it's the limit imposed by Fanny's Smugmug account - no doubt he's off now slipping Baldy a monkey for a bit of slack :thumb

Just a suggestion - Mr Bakerman can blow it out of the water if he wants to. As much as I enjoyed the Friday evening talk by the 2 old dears (who did the Dakar rally) at last years Hogroast, how about some of the TITS giving a talk and showing photos etc at this years Hogroast?

I like that idea :thumb

Sorry about that....As the 'onorable one says, my 4gb download limit has been exceeded this month

I'll watch the usage over the first few days of the month and if it's going over again I'll upgrade it to 8gb.

B

(PS Once the photos are all collected, I'm going to select a hundred or so really good ones and leave those public ,then i'll leave the others all up there but password protected and tell the TITS team the password so they and their families can see all of them....with a thousand pics in the TITS gallery it only takes a couple of dozen people looking through them all and the 4gb limit is shot)

Zip them up and stick them on Bittorrent or similar - that's what it is for

I suspect the pics are all being sorted and played with now......there are rather a lot of them ;)

It's also going to take some time for the TITS to adjust to the reality of what we've done and seen.......and the differences in what 'we' have and what 'they' have.....I wouldn't be at all surprised to find them all being rather subdued for a while while it all sinks in- I certainly was last year and it's hard to get going again....the TITS will know what I mean there.

Good on ya!

Still out there on the way home with a shot suspension!
still when alone, the 650 with the TT extra 22 litre fuel tanks has got to be the best compromise. Agree on the Mauri fuel.... talk about sootty!
Looking forward to chatting about trip sory can't make Eynsford this time as still in Africa!
Cheers Bill

Here they come, driving down the street.

hey hey we're the T.I.T.S.

STOP !!! I've got a plan

Look very carefully, and you can make out the C90's on a road, in the shaded part of the picture - great fun catching them up

Been there, done that, bought a pot

He didn't speak English, only American ?? Why is my face so dusty ?

OK, listen up everybody, i've got a plan .

Eat, slept and caroused there

I lived in The Gambia for 2+years (1997 to 99) in a small reaserch sation called Sapu about a 40min ride from Bansang (west). I spent many a happy weekend with other volunteers who were based in Bansang, many of whom were working within the hospital. Some of those photos brought back many memories of sitting in Boys Bar drinking Julbrew and riding the length and (short) breadth of Gambia in pursuit of better tidal irrgiation for rice growing.

Well done to you all (i wonder if my DT is still going out there) its tough riding and sometimes a day of riding can leave you feeling so drained it is difficult to think.

I will just go and look at my piccies to jog some memories, cannot remember if I have any good ones or not. Would not post them here anyway thats not what its about after all.

Ian
