Well as I've way too much time on my hands at the moment I decided to take the front beak off to see what those nice people at BMW had been doing with the new bikes front sub-frame and found that the new beak and body panels is not all that's changed, the entire sub-frames new as is the tank.

Now what's got me really interested is the fact that the bike now has solid mounting points for auxiliary sockets and winglets built in to the subframe, as someone who's used GSA winglets on a GS and has been thinking of them on the new bike to compliment the GSA screen already fitted this is a real bonus.

I'll be fitting the winglets as soon as I've sourced them, might include an extra accessory socket while I'm at it. :aidan

... I'm Curious (or being thick!) oh great Sultana :bow

... What's the "probe" sticking out front? Is this BuMW, or a king piece of bling?

I think it's the temperature sensor for the on board computer display, 99% certain but if not I'm sure someone will tell me. :augie

Oh yeah, Ms Cheek's is the Sultana, she will be well chuffed at you calling her great. :aidan

How accurate do you find the temperature readout to be, mine (1200RT) indicates around 4deg too low and warns of frost when there is none :o

Hi Thunder

If you still have the bits off your bike can you have a look on top of the oil cooler to see if there is a 'plug' onto the wiring loom. I think I can see one on mine and it appears to be the same shape as the one I used to connect the GPS direct to the canbus system using the BMW part on my previous 05 model.

I have not had a chance to get to the garage yet and play around with my new bike, so if you get a chance this will save me a few minutes when I go to fit the GPS.

Ta!

:)

I'm not able to ride the bike at the moment owing to an off due to invisibility syndrome so can't comment as yet. :(

Hopefully should be able to in a few weeks. :thumb

I'm having real problems finding the power accessory socket used for the GPS on previous bikes, to the point I'm seriously starting to think that the bike with the adjustable suspension may not have one :nenau

In a previous thread someone mentioned that they had found it doubled back on itself on the right of the headstock but I can't see it at all and I now have all th panels off for a bit of further research.

If anyone finds it (paticularly on an ESA model) I'd apprciate a photograph!

The GPS socket is not on the head stock any more but down the right hand side inside the front fairing about level with the front forks - or it was on the demonstrator I saw at Pidcocks.

Its not under the front of the tank anymore. If you look up under the headlight, the three pin plug is taped back onto the loom there. You dont need to take off the tank for it. You wont need to strip anything off to get to it.I know this now because I asked the guys at Moto Central to take the tank off and locate it for me during the PDI.:thumb

Yup, thats the outside temp sensor:thumb

Found the bugger!!!!!

Well as Paul said it was tucked away on the right hand side, hard to see as there is also a diagnostic plug coming off the loom with it, but if you remove the the tie wraps securing the plugs it drops into view.

Could well be in a different position on the GSA, the GS is totally new down there not just a cosmetic upgrade. :augie:D

Oops :blast forgot yours wasnt an Adventure.

After they removed the side panels and the tank, I did see that 2 pin diag plug where Paul mentioned, but there was nothing else there, or around the front of the headstock area. Didnt think BMW would have done away with it, so traced the rest and found it eventually. :thumb

Took th complete bodywork off this afternoon and fund som changes to deal with issues that have come up here and on other forums, namely the problems with the water logged fuel relay and the slow filling fuel cap.

The tank has been changed to have the fuel relay angled to stop water pooling in it, and the new bodywork seems to give it more protection so hopefully having to carry a spare relay when traveling is a thing of the past.

The fuel filler cap is all new and is mounted much higher on the tank with 2 breather pipes (compared to just one on the previous version ) running down each side of the tank in pre-moulded recesses.

Looks like the tank will be easier to fill and possibly use more of it's capacity.

Removing the fuel cap to take the panel off is much simpler than before, the unit is in one piece, does not have the seperate rubber spacers and is secured by 5 screws which are now inside the cap rather than outside it.

Only downside I can see is for those who like the SW Motech tankbag which mounts onto the filler cap, it won't work on the 08.

Thanks Thunder (and others)

It will save me some time fitting the GPS, when I actually get into the garage to do it. I also had seen what appeared to be change in the position of the fuel pump electrics and mentioned it elsewhere, but was waiting to get around to exploring and removing the panels to be certain but you have saved me another task. There does appear to be a number of subtle changes over the previous model hopefully for the better.

I saw your other thread on the 'Remus' header pipes, have you fitted these to the 08 bike and if so any tips on fitting them, mine are currently at the polishers and should be back for the weekend. Any tips greatfully received.

Hi can you tell me what that pointy thing sticking out does theres one under the beak on my adventure but on my gs there wes not

Fantastic Post!

Thunder,

Well done!:clap:clap One of the most useful posts so far for the new bike, and answers a question I had - would the oil cooler grill off my '05 bike fit the '08.

Looks okay to me?!:thumb

Its the air temp sensor, if you have the on-board computer option then you would have one. :thumb2
