Well it's finally done and i can't wait to put them to the test, unfortunately i will only be able to do a proper test over the month end.

Right so first off, go to www.holan.pl and order a set of luggage racks. i chose the Adventure ones purely because i have a set of adventure panniers and it'd be silly to get a whole new set of panniers.

wait for this to arrive,

Push Hp outside while the sun still out and admire it!

Unpack your bag of goodies making sure you don't lose any of the small washers in the grass:blast

P6130209.jpg

Take off the rear plastic covers as well as the tail piece

P6130210.jpg

Unscrew the bolts that hold the rear subframe on

P6130216.jpg

Take off the right footpeg making sure you do not lose the circlip

P6130214.jpg

Take out the bolt that keeps the footpeg level

Put the luggage rack in place and bolt back, there is a replacement bolt for the bolt that holds the footrest level, the short one goes on the right hand side. I just screwed them in loosely and then after i had all the bolts in place did i tighten them all.

Now as i don't have a service stand i had to improvise, so lie the bike down on its right side and repeat the process, there is a replacement bracket for the exhaust mount, otherwise there is interference, just put that in and no worries.

Congrats on your new racks :clap

I have the same racks fitted but mine were an earlier set - neither the mount for the moving the exhaust or the mount for the indicators were available. Also, mine are also scratched to hell and now rusting a bit :( But they've handled a whole lot of abuse and were at a great price. They also have the benefit of providing a good load platform across the back of the bike - that tailpiece won't take much load, but with the panniers on, they share the load. I've frequently travelled with a bag loaded with 15+kgs strapped to the tail.

I would def buy them again.

PS: Where did you get the brake/clutch levers from?

They are made by a friend of mine in his spare time, cost R900,00 approx 57 pounds. And they are the BIZ-NIZ!

Where do you place the license plate light?
I did't installed the tailpiece. I couldn't figure out where the plate light must be placed. I had a broken lamp lens on one of my indicators. Instead of giving BMW 15 euro just for a lamp lens, i bought 2 new small-short indicators with 18 euros that fits fine the OEM tailpiece. I will replace the fronts too. They work fine, looks great and they are lighter...

I just tucked the numberplate light back under the seat, i don't see it as neccecary, i don't think it's law in South Africa i may be wrong but generally you can talk your way out of small things like that.

I also had a broken indicator cover but my friendly local dealer gave me one for free:aidan

Great post thanks for all the info and piccies!

Still not decided whether I am sticking to soft luggage or metal panniers, just sold my zega's as well :blast

I like having the option of either and the racks for hard panniers give you a place to mount soft luggage. I found that the 20l Kriega tail pack fits really well on the righthand rack, gonna experiment with mounting something on the left rack in a way that won't be melted by the exhaust!

A friend of mine will make an alum set with cut design for me (in zegas specs, 1.5mm thick, waterproof etc). When the project is finished i will post some pictures. Most important.. Half the zegas price...

Would it be possible for me to buy them here in south africa, or are they special order only. If so who do i speak to, to arrange the order?

contact Gert Becker 083 four5o 748two, he's in JHB so will point you in the right direction.

They are also available at countrytrax if you are going there any time soon.
Where in JHB are you?

Kempton Park.

Thanks for the number, but i am going to country trax in Aug to do the advanced course, will most probably pick them up there.

I may just be doing that course again too, did the advanced in Feb, great course to do.

Preparing for the GAGSC are ou?

yes, it will be my first one (GAGSC that is).

Is the Advanced really as tough as people say it is?

Well not every one passes the course, it's not like intermediate that everyone makes it, it's very fast paced with MINIMUM instruction, as long as you're fit and don't break your bike i reckon you should be fine, if you are a little unsure rather put yourself in Gerhard's group and not Jan's.
