Givi bags and a GSA

Here's a pic of the BMW GSA panniers from the rear as requested, the width is 39" which is about a meter in new money. :D

Just for reference the top box is a Hepco and Becker Expedition.

Great "rough-tough-Adventure" stance

Looks from the photo that you have gone for the narrow exhaust can and rails to allow symetrical panniers - good choice :thumb

Al :D

I was tired

Actually, I use 2 x 45L and just pushed the Remus can in a bit :eek

Works fine.

I know many on the site prefer the metal cannisters for their luggage, however I would have thought practically speaking they're a pain for unpacking etc. At least with the GIVI and BMW ones they open like a case for easier use upon arrival.

Now I know they won't be as useful for going around the world, but in all honesty how many here will be doing that as opposed to heading into Europe on tarmac?

i've had both (not GIVI), and i'd say the ali ones are much more convenient in this regard especially if you have the proper inner bags.

BMW system cases are all but full with one pair of trainers anyway

My first set of panniers for the bike were Hepco & Beckers Aluminium Expeditions and the inner bags for them made packing and unpacking very easy plus they gave the option of leaving the panniers on the bike when you arrived at a destination.

I kept them when I changed to the GSA panniers and have found they fit the panniers perfectly.

Any aluminium pannier which is not powder coated or treated in some way really needs an inner bag to prevent marking its contents.

Guess I'll have to be the odd one out here then, thinking the ali ones not only look like something Uncle Ernie made in his shed, but not seeming as convenient as a case either.

I guess in the rough tough world of round the world travel though they then come into their own

That's because everyone orders the "standard" Vario boxes

I got the "Mary Poppins Varios" (part numbers 584-558454/584-558456) which seem almost "unfillable" :nenau

The dealers don't tell you they are available unless you ask :thumb

Al :D

Yes - with the bags it's a piece of cake and you just leave the panniers on the bike. :thumb
