MOT due on GS this Saturday, last night checked the rear wheel. Play is obvious.:(

At work today I phoned Barry Barber, he said I could bring it to him today. So after work he looked at the bike and said it was definitely the paralever bearings. He took it into his workshop there & then:thumb2

Took the back wheel off, heat gun out nuts loosened. Ooh, these feel rough. As indeed they did:eek:

Are you in a rush? I could do this now. Hour & a half later job done.
Even though He's never seen me before, & I said that I didn't have the money on me, he did the job anyway.

See him tomorrow & give him the £100.

Saved me from a probable MOT failure:D

You have been sent from some where holy:bow :bow
Please tell me where he is, hopefully not up norf as my para bearing is also now finished. SLM whant's £200 but they are 2min from me.:blast :)

£200 quid.   07810713710 Farlington, Portsmouth, just off of the A27.

Isn't Steptoe closer to you?

pm him.

:thumb Thanks for that,:thumb as with the paralever bearing replacement, I thought his labour rate was high. :blast But if a non BM shop did it, it may have taken longer, so cost the same?

However, I'd rather spend the money on the petrol & visit Lahndan.:thumb

High labour rates

High all, i thought it was about time to respond to such comments,
Is my labour rate really that high? ref the paralever job - yes this job did only take me 1 hr & 40 mins but i am a fully trained BMW technician, however if the pinions would have been seized in then i quoted for the job and still would have only charged the customer the same price, oh forgot to mention there was the rear drive oil done as well as sundries & half the price of main dealers? By the way this job was started at 5.00pm in the evening on the gentlemans way home! Steptoe the quote for £60.00 for parts & labour to do a fuel filter & poly v belt is low, i would guess parts to be £30.00, so if you charge only £30.00 for this then you can have my business as i will retire and drive a food van for the supermarkets, oh by the way not to mention the engine bars to be removed from the ELIMINATOR's bike to change the v belt or would this be in your £30.00 price aswell. However thanks to all my customers who support me & the service they recieve i believe is seconed to none.

Sundries, these were, 2 tie wraps, two washers, splash of brake cleaner.

They weren't seized though.

Crash bars, the suggestion was that removing the bolt in front of the cover would suffice.

But if a non BM shop did it, it may have taken longer, so cost the same?

Still glad you done it though, but at those rates not on a regular basis.

Parts cost £17. Labour £43. Job Hour and half start to finish. Engine bars don't have to be removed.

See you when you drop the food off. :D :D

B-EMS 1200'S

Barry, do you work on the new generation of 1200's?, as my 12gs is out of warranty, a knowledgeable independent would be useful, as i am on the south coast.

The price is irrelevant (to a point anyway) when the service and quaility is there...

That's just as imoprtant if you're stuck :)

PS Neil, get on with my bloody bike and stop reading this bollix....I'll be down in a few hours :D

The guy can't live on buttons. Still, I suppose if you pay monkey rates you'll get a monkey job, so you'd be happier at a zoo.

And you do have the Bahnstormer option at £70 +VAT, or CW at £50 +VAT including the 60 minute ride down which is gonna cost you.

Barry will collect from your home/office if needed.

I've never had the feeling that Barry is ripping me off, and has done a number of little jobs FOC even though the 10 minutes turned into an hour or so. And, by your own admission the work was done in the evening, presumably as an urgent job. Where else were you going to get it done at that time of day?

Didn't bother me being done at that exact moment. Anyway enough of this, I think this has run it's course:thumb

I didn't mention anything about being ripped off:confused:
