I am off to Europe tomorrow, and am having major problems with my quest. I had it replaced last week, a new unit came back to me a couple of days ago, and I can't get the routes I have plotted on my pc, onto the unit. They will send, but when I try to navigate them, it says the maps are not available, and it will not follow the specified route. I am using v8 on my pc and on my unit. I have had everything unlocked via garmin over the phone yesterday, and they assured me everything woudl work ok when I put the maps on today. I am really stuck here, and am panicking now, as we leave tomorrow! Please help if you can! Thanking you in advance. Tori x

I know its an obvious question, but have you selected the maps from Mapsource (you know when you select the areas in which you're travelling and the grid turns pink - select Tools on toolbar and then Map). That could be your problem.

re

Yes I did do that. I've even tried doing it again when I send the maps, selecting the maps around the route, but it still won't work :( Any other ideas?

Another thought - have you got the right mapsource info selected on the unit ?
On Garmin unit press Menu / settings / OK / Map info / OK.
Is the box checked to show that v8 is being used?

It may all be obvious, but its best to check (I'm struggling to think of anything else !)

re

Yes that's checked too. :( I'm really getting annoyed with it now.

Did you transfer maps, routes & waypoints at the same time ? Might be worth looking to see if the waypoints made it across ???

re

yes, maps waypoints and routes alls elected and sent. Still when I find the route in route planner, it's there, it will show the route, show the turns, but when I go to navigate, it just says 'This route does not match the available maps. It will not follow the route precisely. Do you want to recalculate it? if I press no, it just sends me to my home destination for some reason. If i press yes it takes me to my home destination too. it's almost as if it's trying to route me from home. I have satellites on, maybe I should turn them off?

I had a Quest 2 which did exactly the same to me on a trip to Belgium & France last year. Had no choice but to let it recalc (and didn't that take a long time:rolleyes:) though to be fair the route wasn't that different to what I'd originally planned.

The Quest 2 was a piece of junk so got sent back to Garmin after I got back home.

Not much help - sorry :nenau

It sounds as if the map on the Quest, & the map selected in Mapsource are different (check the drop-down meu in Mapsource) or, more likely, you haven't got (all) detailed mapping on the Quest, and the unit is using its base map - hence needing to re-calc. You may well have missed a small map segment.

Or,

When you transferred the maps from your PC, did you check that the 'include routing information' box at the bottom left was ticked (I don't think it is this, but you never know).

Also, zoom out on the Quest, and check that you can see yellow boxes - which will indicate that detailed mapping has been transferred across.

Did you return a Quest 1, & have they sent you a Quest 2?

Both can use V8, but Quest 2 uses V8 NT, which the unit identifies as a different map.

I think chasr has hit it on the head. The only time I had that message was when I'd missed one corner of a map tile - the "missing" road was only approx 1 mile, but it was enough. Have you "selected the maps around route" option for every route?

Don't know the answer, but I just had this happen too

Not much help as I don't know why, but the same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago on hol's in Brittany. It definitely wasn't anything to do with missing map segments as I checked in Mapsource and the Quest and both had the requisite tiles selected. I use a 'route for each day' system when travelling and every route gave the same message when I told the Quest to follow it.

Unfortunately I still haven't a clue what caused it (although to be fair, I haven't had time to investigate too closely). I did take the precaution of loading the routes/maps/waypoints/tracks back into the pc when I returned so I can play around and try and work out what went on.

It's not a faulty unit (unless it's intermittent), I am off again in 2 weeks and having loaded the maps/routes for that trip as a test, those are working ok.

re

Thanks for your help guys. I have transferred the maps to my unit again, checking the routing box was ticked (It was) I am only trying to transfer one route at the moment, as it seems daft to do lots when they are all failing. I click to highlight the map around the route, as well as the fact I think it should be on the unit already too. I'm still getting the same message :(

re

Also, how can I tell if it's been replaced with a quest 2? The unit looks exactly the same as my old one, and still says Garmin Quest on the front. Thanks

It will literally say 'Quest 2' in red on the front.

Dare I suggest a comfy seat and a call to Garmin ??? I don't know if they're open on a weekend but once you get through I've always found them to be very helpful.

re

I was on the phone most of yesterday afternoon with them. They 'claimed' to have solved my problem, but it seems not. They are only open monday to friday. I hoped someone here might have some ideas. I appreciate your help.

re

I'm not sure how to do a system reset, or how it may affect the unit. I guess it's worth a try. i'm getting a bit desperate now!

Best start with some simple checking.

Why not load a couple of segments around where you live. Plan a route in Mapsource, then transfer the whole lot to the Quest. See if that works.

Don't forget, any transfer of maps doesn't add to what is already on the Quest, it erases the previous map data.

Let us know if that works.
