Wolfman Explorer Lite would probably be the better fit for the F800GS.

added a bar bag to mine- the gerike one I used on the 1150 wont fit due to lack of cross bar, Kriega mini pouch think fits a treat

tail pack too, until I can see some panniers in the flesh as it were!

Chris, would that tail pack fit on a topbox plate?

I should think so, it has loops n stuff underneath, it is a BMW bag, so they should fit BMW top plates pretty well

I got the BMW one

I have the BMW tank bag. It is HUGE, first time I feel that they made it to big, I have a normal body, no potbelly, but when using the tankbag, I can rest my body against it. Will put Verholen handlebar riser on my bike, always used them, to get the handlebar up and further towards me, might help a little as I have to stretch my arms a little .

I think wolfman has some nice bags and that's the route I'll be going (Denali tank bag) once my 800 arrives. Not sure how they'll fit since they were designed for the older 650 gs but I'm going to give 'er a go.

I have a Wolfman Explorer tankbag that I used on my KLR. Top notch stuff!! I hope to be able to adapt it to my 800GS. My impression is that it'll be in the way of the ignition key though.

Tank protector tape here...

I've got a few scuffs on my tank (i know... air box) where a bit of grit has got under the tank bag & during the course of the day worn the paint in small areas. The paint seems to be pretty thin....

Anyway i saw a mountain biking mate today & he had this tape on his frame to protect it from chips, Helicopter Tape he called it. & sure enough a quick google reveals what would appear to be a fine product to protect various parts of the 800's bodywork from wear.

http://www.helicoptertapedirect.co.uk/

You can buy various widths & legnths, i've gone for the 20cm x 1metre, seems far cheaper than those kits or companies that offer the bespoke service. But i recon 1 metre should allow a couple of go's at it.

A good product i think, made by 3M, & they actually do use it to coat the rotor blades on helicoptors to guard the surfaces from chips.

Should be up to the task then. :thumb

Cheers for the recommendations everyone, after a morning bombing round the bike shops of West London I managed to find at Oxford First bag for £19 which fits perfectly and even has a cut out for the key.

Is that this one:

Yes thats the one, £19 in Hein Gerricke, you need to mount it more back towards the seat rather than where it appeats in the pic above, because of the key but it fits well. Mount the rear straps to the side of the tank on the lattice work as there is no where to mount them under the seat, if you have a look at the Touratech instructions for their tank bag on their site, the fixing is the same and it shows you exactly how to do it.

I'll have to look at one in the flesh - just need to fit my phone, full-body D-SLR camera and a bottle of water in it. Think its big enough?

Yep :thumb

As Jims back up, tool provider & chief tea maker on Saturday, I also provided a paparazzi service too;

We removed the side protecting panels & left them off for the pics, so you can see how they attach.

I later received a text confirm stability at 90mph+ :augie

Pics of where I've mounted the bottom strap on the Famsa bag - don't know if it's the right place as it twists the straps through 90 degrees. Other side of the bike mirrors this picture.

The Famsa pic suggests they fixed the straps to the upright section of the 'triangle' in the frame - I couldn't get the level of fore/aft adjustment on the bag doing this. Didn't have any problems over 1500 very wet and occasionally very fast miles.

Ahhh I've got that tank bag on order too!!!:aidan
It looks like the lower strap also offers a bit of frame/tank protection.

YEah I got mine delivered last week. I ask BM to post pix of the attachement because I couldn't figure out quite how it attaches, the Famsa pic shows it attached to the vertical...

The side straps have a double-d connector with velcro for the flappy end - but the position of the velcro doesn't make much sense.

Also, the side bits have quick release buckles which is nice - but the headstock strap doesn't, which makes it quite fiddly to attach & remove the bra.

The bag itself is nice and well designed, but the straps seem odd in comparison, I feel sure I am missing something!

I'd adapted my Wunderlich tank bag for my 1200GS-A to fit the F800ST when it came. I then adapted it again to fit my F800GS...

Fits just fine, it's well made and has been in constant service for several years and many thousands of miles :thumb

Hey Micky, is that this one: http://www.nippynormans.com/prodinfo.asp?number=WUN-1250190&variation=&aitem=9&mitem=16

How much adaption was needed to make it fit?

Cheers.

Jolyon

Very little Jolyon... same bag indeed, I bought mine direct from Wunderlich some years ago :thumb

The original 1200 front fittings are used, just cut down and sorted. For the rear all you need is a length of usual strapping, some velcro, a leather repairer that can sew the velcro on to the strap and that's it. The straps fasten under the seat to two handy mountings and are left hanging once the seat is replaced, all very neat and easy methinks.

Aerostich top bag experience?

I've got an F800GS on order here in the 'States, and what else is there to do during a long-ass wait but think about "farkling" the steed...? :augie

I was checking out the most recent Aerostich catalog today and thought that this might be a nice way to top off the passenger seat, overlaying the Vario panniers.

http://tinyurl.com/fc2lc

I never did like the looks of a hard plastic top case, and thought this might make a versatile unit. Any opinions or experience with this configuration? :nenau

Thanks,
Kevin

i'm thinking about the same thing, considering the capacity of the panniers is going to be somewhat limited by the design of the bike. i think i like the medium one.

Looks very nice, but why not made in "drybag"material?
Raincover is supplied but probably only cover the top, what about the bottom in heavy rain at 100km\hr.
Would like to get one(medium) for sunny days, but will use my ortlib drybages for longer trips.

Raincover's on tank bags are crap... balloon up when on the move, have to piß about when you want something out of the bag

Ultimate solution ....

Free from Lidle, BMW, or any good supermarket ....

Terrific street cred ....

100% effective ...
