I have GSA panniers (the standard BMW/Touratech ones)- Question is I have different grades of bung/lock covers on each pannier. The two types are...

1. Hard plastic cover that fits in the lock

2. Rubber bungs that dont fit in the lock properly

It looks like these bungs are designed to keep crud out of the locks.

Does anyone else have a mixture of rubber and hard plastic parts for these lock covers?

Does anyone know where I can buy, or if it is possible to buy hard plastic cover bungs for all the locks?

help appreciated

Indeed I have the same problem. Right side has lurvly hard plastic ones, Top & Left have soft rubber ones that are terrible.

I saw a post on here a short time ago giving the part number for the hard plastic bungs as a replacement (I was only searching for it yesterday :) ) but couldn't seem to find it again.

If anyone has a note of these or can point us to the post it would be most helpful :augie

Me too :thumb2
I think it's a cunning ploy by BMW/Touratech to get some more money out of us. I wonder if we could get MCN, or some other highly-respected, quality publication to do a road test for us and determine which would be the best ones to go for... the hard plastic, or the soft rubber... after all, it's (was) our money :tears

The hard plastic bung covers are the best because they actually stay in the lock insert, preventing crud/cack/crunk from filling the lock!

Part number for these parts would be great to have, i'd order 6 of these bungs immediately for the 2 panniers that have useless rubber bungs that dont even stay in the lock...

eagerly awaiting...:thumb2

I thought it was just mine that had the rubber manky ones.

To help insert them in place i've found a bit of petroleum jelly helps for a few days but soon wears off (that doesn't read back right but you know what i mean :D)

Part number for the pastic ones would be very handy :thumb

3 rubber ones here

I've just got 3 of the rubbery ones, that fit for about a minute, then fall out. I've given up putting them back in and just let them flap about.

Didn't know there was an alternative. That'd be useful if someone does know the part no (and they're not a stupid price).

I've given up with the rubber bungs as they're no use. Are the hard versions a warranty issue?

Unfortunatly not, it's just a superceeded technique.

Wish I could remember the guy who posted them, I seem to remember that a set (one paniers worth) was only around 6 quid.

I lost the bung thingy from the top box and the pannier bungs were soft rubber,I threw them away-what good are they anyway

Lots of use if they are the hard plastic part, they prevent the crunk getting in the locks...the soft rubber ones i wouldnt bother with like you say...why Bmw didnt talk to touratech and ask for useful hard plastic bungs all round i dont know! but nice to know that i am not the only one that got an eccletic mix of useless soft rubber and useful hard plastic dust caps...makes me wonder what else is irregularly fitted...

I don't see that they are any good at all no matter what material they're made from, they are as likely to trap crud and moisture in as prevent it getting there and draining out,you don't get one for your ignition or seat lock and all other bikes survive without them,as I said earlier I,ve filed them under "B" ;)

I suppose it depends on what kind of mileage you do per year, if you ride in wet/snow conditions, and where you mostly ride... I want a full set of useable dust caps for my locks, you dont...
