Yesterday BMW confirmed that 150.000 BMW motorcycles are equipped with the affected EWS. BMW spokesman said, that motorcycles are affected that were build between 08/01/2006 and 03/15/2008. He also said that it's up to the dealers if they inform their customers about the issue. BMW does not inform the customers because the EWS-failure is not a safety problem.

There is another article that does list all models and their numbers that are affected, i.e. the "old" R1200GS with 26.853 units, the "new" R1200GS with 10.327 units. Not to mention the Adventure-models and all the other like F800GS and ...

This is what I like about the precision of the Germans.

150 (to three decimal places) of faulty bikes. wow.

Tim

Three decimal places?

It's about 150 Thousand BMW motorcycles and at least in Germany that number is written as posted: 150.000 = 150 Thousand. Decimal places would be 150.000,00.

How do you write 150 Thousand in the UK? I am sorry, I don't know.

WTF! Mine died whilst blatting through country bends in France... drifted completely across road as a result.
These people have their heads so far up their own arses, makes me wonder if anyone has been killed as a result of this - but then we wouldn't necessarily know would we, depending on the depth of the subsequent police investigation... standards vary throughout the world.
Cheers

Well my bastard just went whilst we were in the South of France.

Not a nice feeling stranded in a laybye on a Sunday night as it starts to get dark 100 miles to go to my hotel in Millau

June 2007 model supposedly repaired with an upgraded part.
If I keep it long enough I'll let you know.

I assume you mean 01/08/2006 and 15/03/2008.We date things different here in Blighty..what what!

My "new" 05 BMW has the old part number (the one that is duff), why are these not included in the recalls?

Well mine died in motion. I de-clutched, coasted to a stop and then it came up with EWS failure - what else can I say?

Cheers

Roger: With all due respect, the antenna ring/EWS is only to start the engine. It won't cause a runninng engine to stop.

We've let Nemesis in again - two more pages of reaction. We should know better. :o

I thought it would be a great idea to change the dates vom German to US style. So I was wrong. What I learned from this thread is how to write numbers in the UK and how to write dates in the UK.

Tanks. I will do better next time... :thumb
