......well it is now it has a 250+ mile range.

The Safari tank went on just fine and still keeps the slimish profile of the original bike.

Just need to wait till March to get hold of my Renazco seat and the bike will be sorted.

Nice job but won't it be a hassle to take it all off again when you sell it in the next few weeks?

You may jest,but I think i may actually hang on to this one.

Having owned numerous KTMs,the SE was always my fav and I regret selling-so when I saw that they had lobbed £2k off the new price back in the summer it was a no brainer.

It was great away in France and only really needed a better tank range and possibly a better seat,though I did 380 miles on one day and it was much better than I expected.

So the tank is sorted with this 30 litre beaut and I here guys in the US and A are getting 240 miles or so to reserve and that's off road too.

I'll have my hand made seat from that master James Renazco in March (he build em one by one) .

Luggage-wise,it will never be as simple as clickon and off hard luggage,but I have a good tail bag that goes on the Black Dog rack and I also have a 30 litre dry bag that bungees to the pack-so plenty enough for a week away.

BUT,the main benefit is that the bike is so much lighter and more chuckable than the GSA,plus it has in my opinion the best engine that KTM ever made,having tried them all from 640 to 1190 !!

I would probably sell the GSA before the SE.

This week anyway.

965 mm on the SE

910 mm and 890 mm on the GSA :thumb2

Look-I live in fcuking Guernsey-not the middle of darkest Wales or suchlike.

We don't have endless miles of trails/fireroads/moors.

But,in any case,I bought it to mainly use on road,as I love then whole SE thing-the size/seat height/fully sorted carbed motor.

The fact in can go offroad is a bonus.

Not sure if it will fit but that's an idea.

I had one of those on my 450 EXC so will try and EXC cap next time I'm in the dealer.

The cap is the only bit of the Safari tank they could have worked a bit harder on.

I guess they didn't want to have the stock SE cap fit as that would have limited the peaked shape of the Safari tank.

The seat height is a bit higher than the GSA (with GSA seat on high setting).

But as the bike is a lot lighter,it's far easier getting on and off etc.

No,thank god.

It's directly under the seat so easy to get to/attach Optimate etc.

I spoke to James Renazco on the phone and went with his advice completely.

Having asked me what i used the bike for with on/offroad percentages etc and my weight/inside leg etc etc,he recommended a 'Superwide' which just has a slightly wider bit where you sit mostly with a suede top and pig skin sides,both in black,with orange stitching/lettering.

He said he has done a few SEs and this looks best and will be suited for long days onroad.

He asked if I wanted it any taller

or shorter,but I said keep it pretty much as standard.

Just wish I ordered back in July,when the $/£ was 2/1 and not realising he had a 4 month back log.

I'm planning on taking it next summer a few times,including Magnum's trip through the Alps in Switzerland/Italy/Austria.

That'll be 2000 miles plus in about 10 days and will be interesting to compare the similar RDGA trip I did this Sept on the GSA.

The GSA was fantastic,but I reckon the SE will be even better on alpine passes with numerous tight hairpins,as it is so much more manoeuvrable,as you well know.
