Hi All

Any one had this? It’s occurring on the underside of the housing, on the wheel-hub side ... paint has gone white and is beginning to ‘blister‘ (not soft blisters, but hard ones).

I was taking photos for Bike Medic today for some cosmetic repair work when I noticed it ...

Found the same on mine. Two days before expiry of warranty! Pics sent off to BMW and replacement final drive authorised. Take it to your dealer. Fairly common fault I believe. You might be lucky with a goodwill claim!

Mine too, along with the usual front plate, gearbox cover etc.

Will be making a warranty claim in the spring once all the salt is off the road - it seems to crumble the moment it sees a bit of salt:confused:

just checked the underside of FD

Just checked up close and mine's even worse!, not good for a 22 month old bike

I'll take mine to the guys at Bahnstormer and see if it can be fixed under warranty.

Mine looks the same as voyager's (perhaps not quite as bad).

I've treated it with T-9 and will keep an eye on it for now.

Jesus H. Christ man, it's a ******* adventure bike, not some trailer queen...ride the piss out of it and if you wanna cry about it, go over to those ****sticks at ADVRider and go to GSpot...it's where all the whiners are.:ronno

Ahem! I ride mine all year round ... but I don't see why I should have to accept that it will just rot away from under me. If it's a manufacturing matter the BMW will have to sort it ... meantime I'll be riding the 'piss out of it'.

This thread is for people who are concerned about a similar problem, not for those who don't give a shit. So, may I politely suggest you go and read something else?

Is that alright? ;)

WAAAA, DOES YOUR MANGINA HAVE SAND IN IT?

:oonyack

yep, you'll find those on the drain screw of your final drive too...:oonyack

That wasn't meant to be an opportunity for you to have another pop!

 is that what it is then, a drain screw? (Looks like one.) I thought my model didn't have one - since the dealer had to remove the rear wheel to change the FD oil at the 600 mile and 12k services ...

you must have a 06 or early 07....

btw, tell GSDude to go pound sand.:D

That's a drain screw (came in at the beginning of '07). It still doesn't have a filler/level screw and the oil is put in using the speed pick-up. That's why your dealer would have had to remove your rear wheel.

I see your wheel is showing corrosion as well. As you ride it all year it may be salt damage. :(

In picture 2 (from Boxster) the disc brake carrier seems to be incredibly corroded (or filthy).

I hope he has been washing the road salt off on a regular basis. Not letting it accumulate for days or weeks, then washing it off to find blistering paint.
