I'm hearing repeated great things about how good portugal is for messing about in the gravel....

..trouble is i can't seem to figure out WHERE we need to go? mapping for Portugal is no problem, but an idea of the best locations would help before I start planning..

Iz just bought a GS800 and we are keen to get away and play in the dirt.

We've got three weeks off around Christmas and were considering heading down there....

...any tips on locations/ routes/ source of further info?

thanks

JP

Drop me a mail to

and if you have a GPS I can send you a North to South off road route through Portugal.

Offer open to all with 2 "rules":

2) send me pictures when you're back :-)

replied with routes and answers to both.

Feel free to mail me if you are interested, although I might "batch up " the response if I get a load through. OK?

Just sent the latest lot out - if I've missed you can you resend an e-mail please?

to answer some common questions here.

about a week top to bottom.
OK for a big bike, but sandy in the south
Yes plenty of petrol / small hotels
I use a Zumo 660 in "off road" mode, and use a local map

Well that’s amazing Mark, must have been written on some kind of OS equivalent digital mapping then transferred to mapsource, certainly a epic route. Has it all been ridden?

Thanks very much :thumb

you're welcome.

Has it all been ridden? Yup but one "valley" had been dug up by JCB's (probably OK now) so we back tracked and joined up later. Also I have heard from a guy on Adv Rider I sent it to, that a farmer (perhaps) put up a no entry sign for a small section so again they back tracked.

Where has the original route come from? Is it the Ponte-a-pointe route from the Nomad MC Club?

The riding in Portugal is fantastic, I am going again on 24th October with Loz and RickA, this time taking G650XC and two KTM690ER.
Went earlier in the year too, with my DRZ400. Some of the trails were..... shall we say, very exciting, even on a pogo!:drool
It is a superb destination, and the Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santander ferry is very handy.:thumb2

Timpo.

Is the route wide enough for 4x4 or is it single track
Would like to plan a trip in the jeep
Cheers Darren

Hi JP
Went in sept 2008 with Julian Cade who runs Motocadia to the Esteral Mountains.
Theres offroad tracks linking nearly all the local villages so you can base yourselves in one place and do loads of different circular routes.

Curious about that off road map. Can I have some?

How can I send a PM?!?! Do I need more posts? That's just silly...
