For those of you who may not be able to make the Bike Show at Excel we have just taken a couple of photos of our latest 60 & 90 litre roll-bags in black with fluorescent stripes. They come with heavy-duty zip, inner-bag and two straps which attach to the bike frame. The 90 litre bag comes in at just over £40.00 - a bargain for a fully water-proof roll-bag & they are also available in blue, orange & red. I will post more photos in due course.
Any comments gratefully appreciated.

Hope this isn't a daft question but why the inner bag if they're waterproof? Is it for organising stuff?

Hi
No it is not a daft question. The roll-bag itself is completely waterproof. The reason we include an additional water-proof inner-bag is that in very exceptional circumstances (really torrential rain) you might just get a hint of damp around part of the stitching. It just acts as a safeguard to be really sure everything remains dry. Hope that answers your question.

If the bag's completely waterproof, why would you get damp around the stitching? Is the stitching tape sealed or just stitched through the waterproof fabric?

As I said in my previous mail it is only in extremely exceptional circumstances that this might occur (i.e. monsoon conditions). So in the unlikely event of a customer experiencing such conditions the bags will have the seams sealed prior to dispatch.

Not wanting to rain on anyones parade but I use these guys, they're a lot cheaper than any i've found before and i've been very happily using a couple of their bags for 2-3 years.

Lomo Dry bags

Stahlkoffer ones do look good though.

Monsoon conditions is exactly what we face in the rain on the bike, 80mph rain for several hours counts as monsoon in my book. Not being funny but either the bags are waterproof or they're not. If they need an inner bag, or the seams aren't tape sealed, then they're really not waterproof.

I've had a lomo bag for a few years and it's great. So are Ortleib bags.

I'm not quite sure I get this either.

The bag is either completly waterproof or it isn't:nenau

I ride in tropical rain conditions on my weekely KL-Singapore commute, I've used many bags that claim to be water tight, I have even had a few donated by friends in the oil industry that are issued water tight bags for the helicopter trips offshore, none have been completely water tight when i get rain the whole 3-4 hour trip....accept one...the BMW role bag, the zip is not conventional, its actually like a heavy duty gladebag affair, and has a gel that you apply yearly to be sure of the seal, expensive but it truely works.

I think having an inner bag to be safe is a good idea, as in reality in "real rain" (which is rare in the UK) few bags stand up. The price of bernt56's stuff look very attractive compared to the BMW kit....

Lomo bags look good and like the fact that they open up wide. What size is the most popular ?

I got 2 of the 30L jobbies. They fit nicely on the bike or on top of the Panniers... and are actually quite big...

Glad I came across this post, I was just about to order some Ortleib ones at twice the price.
Looked at the HG ones but didn't like the top opening.
Have just ordered a 60L Lomo to strap on the back of my 650, thought the others looked a bit small. Hope I've made the right decision.
I've gone for the little bum bag for a tenner as well.

Been using one of the 40l bags for a couple of years now. I put all my cold/wet weather gear that I use on set in one and strap it to the bike when I go on location. It doesn't live an easy life and has beeen in torrential weather on the motorway and kept everything dry.

Being able to open up lengthways and rummage around to find stuff is much easier than taking it all out from one end.

Highly recommended.
