Basterd decided to get stuck in 6th gear on the way to work this morning :blast

Bag o shyte :mad:

A mere 18 and a half k miles on it too, barely run in. :cool:

Lets see how good BuM W 's infamous customer service/warranty dept is......:rolleyes:

BTW, if anyone else has any experience of this specific failure it will help when quoting chapter and verse at Lind..:thumb
 
Have you actually spoken to 'BuM W 's infamous customer service/warranty dept'? Perhaps you should, before you slag them off! If I worked there I wouldn't be looking at your claim in a favourable light.

I really hope your bike bike is fully up to date with its maintenance schedule.

If your bike is out of warranty, then I hope no-one from BMW reads this.
 
yep, you'll find it's the thrust nut in the middle of the clutch - it's come off! Easy fix if your bike is no longer in warranty. Get a big socket, some thread lock, and someone to hold the clutch basket in place with some tyre irons. Put housing back on, fill with oil, and you're good to go.

Hmmm, interlesting..... the clutch was fine, I'm told by the Lind guys that the engine and gearbox are coming out as its got to be split :eek:

They've already shagged one engine bolt and its got to be drilled out and replaced at my expense as I have Adv Spec crashbars, apparently....:mad:

As for you V8 legend (if thats your real name, which I doubt), I'm not sure that using the word "infamous" constitutes "slagging off", but given you used to work in customer care for BuMW it might explain a lot.....tetchy get......:D

It's in warranty and is, ironically, booked in for it's 18k service this Friday, few hundred miles overdue, but only cos they couldn't fit it in...:rolleyes:

ah now but what cheese is it made of , these bikes always seem fairly robust to me with few problems :beerjug:

No, that's not my real name! It's a reference to my Land Rover 110. I'm not sure that many of the names on here are real! Are you really called argee?

I don't know where you've got the impression that I used to work for BMW? The closest I've got is working at a Kawasaki main dealers back in the late 70's/early 80's. Yes, I really am that old! Doesn't make me any wiser though.

Using the word infamous doesn't constitute slagging off, but 'bag o shyte' might.

All irrelevant. My point is that BMW and their dealers read this forum. I understand that you're pissed off (I certainly would be). However, complaining about bad service before you've got it on this forum isn't going to help your cause (you tetchy get.....:D).

BMW's warranty and customer service is amongst the best. As your bike is in warranty, I'm sure you'll have no problems. If the adv spec bars are BMW, then I can hardly see how that is your fault?

Good luck with the repairs, I hope they fix it soon. Keep us posted, it will be interesting to see what the problem is, although you probably didn't sign up to be a part of BMW's development team:mad:

The bag o shyte comment was not about the bike, just the situation.

The bars are Adv Spec not Bimmer, hence the expense...:mad:

Thought I was going to have to call Relate there for a mo. Jeeze, careful with those handbags girls. Especially if they are hand bags of shite. Could have been messy. Good luck with the fault anyway. And this is my real name! :)
 
I think if you do a poll of which bars people use. BMW will be near or at the bottom of the scale. They protect the engine but not the body of the bike..making you spend more money fixing the bikes plastic bits rather than just lifting your steed back up & off you go again.

Right, turns out the selector fork and 5th gear are f3cked, so new parts from der fatherland are being ordered, eta 7-10 days, so thats my trip to Sunderland beggared...:(

On the upside, its all under warranty, notwithstanding the drilling and replacement of the Adv Spec bolt, and it's getting serviced and stamped as part of the deal :clap

Many thanks to all for input so far, and 'specially to Paul and Darren at Lind :thumb

Gonna get the x challenge serviced in the slot booked for Friday instead :D

Right, better ring Adv Spec for a pair of bolts then......:cool

I'm not expecting this job to need doing twice. But make sure they put some copper grease on the threads. They're big old bolts, can't see how they stripped in the first place.

Anyway, Sunderland wouldn't have been much kop this time of year. Us Southerners need more than a T-shirt in February!

Well, the final reckoning is £174.......:(

Replaced 5th gear, input selector shaft, selector fork and Left hand engine cover (corroded) all under warranty, BUT, had to pay 80 quid towards the 18k service (:confused:) and an hours labour for the banjoed engine bolt drilling and tapping extravaganza....:mad:

Replacement bolts form Adv Spec were 10 squids as mentioned previously:blagblah

Just need to find the £174 down the back of the sofa and I can go pick it up :rolleyes:

Oh, and BTW, anyone got any recommendations for chain and sprockets, my tsubaki/renthal combo are on thier way out after about 9k miles.:eek

FWIW ... I have Iris chain on mine with the original sprockets - the OE chain was changed at 2.5k - I've used an oiler for all that time and have negligible wear at 16k!

My recommendation - new C&S set then invest in a Scottoiler...
