Rear ended by a car - advice please

I got rear ended by a car last week while stopped at pedestrian crossing. It wasn't too bad, I didn't come off and the only visible damage is a cracked and bent rear mudguard and the bike (2009 GSA) is driving fine.

However with the bike on the centre stand I noticed today that there’s a little movement on the rear wheel. Hardly anything but it’s there. I am useless mechanically so could anyone advise whether a little bit of lateral movement is normal and whether or not there could be a problem with the rear drive, bearings or whatever?

I had the bike serviced a month ago and nothing was noticed by the garage. I’ll probably drop into them next week anyway so they can take a look but any advice would be welcome.
 
I would always recommend having it checked by a 'pro' just to make sure as you never know what hidden damage is done no matter how small the impact. HAving said that, I hope it's all fine :thumb2
 
Well i hope you casually put your side stand down, dismounted and walked over to the other driver (assumed male) and promptly knocked his block off!! :tosser
 
Yes a bloke...........in a brand spanking new 911 Turbo. His replacement front bumper will cost a bit more than my rear mudguard.

Thanks for the advice, I'll drop into my garage on Monday to get them to check it over.
 
I would try and get whatever you can from it, and if you can wangle a new FD all the better.

You would be gutted if it fails a bit later on and always wonder if it was just the natural ability of the things to blow up, or cause by the actions of matey.

Also if it did later go bang and BMW got wind the bike had been rear ended I bet they would not want to stump up on warranty.

Mine has 10k on it and no play whatsoever andif I did find even 1mm of play I would assume it is on its way out, BMW's tolerance is obviously so huge so they can try and avoid too many warranty claims on the damn things.

I had a similar prang a few years back from a flash Merc convertible. My Yamaha rear tyre absorbed the 5mph impact leaving me totally undamaged, his expensive Mercedes front bumper/air splitter didn't.:D
 
I assume you have spoked wheels, but if they are ally they also ought to be properly inspected as may have hairline fractures invisble to the eye, but potentially dangerous if you hit a bump at speed in the future.

And this is exactly why we are now all paying an extra 40% in insurance this year. Get what you can from the insurance bar stuards, yes sure but guess who they get their money from and who pays for it at the end of the day?

Seriously though get it into a dealer and get it checked. I cant see the accident causing bearing failure as a pot hole probably puts lots more force through it but getting it checked properly. Odds on it was there before as a lot of GS's have it
