Anyone else have issues like this?

If I try and post to UKGSer with my iPad 2 running Safari, Safari always crashes part way through writing the post. All of the iPad software is up to date and it doesn't do this anywhere else.

I have exactly the same problem, and have done so since updating to IOS 5. No problems before this. I posted on in this section some time ago, and it looked as though I was on my own. Welcome to the club. Rightly or wrongly I assumed it was a conflict between the UK GSER website software, and IOS 5. I've got around the problem by browsing in Safari, but typing posts in the app Tapatalk. Not an answer to what's causing the problem, but it works.

Try Atomic Web - now my standard iPad browser all the features of a desktop browser and more

* tabs
* private browsing
* masquerading as all the standard desktop browsers - essential if you don't want to be limited to the mobile version of some sites

This post was originally sent from safari then edited in atomic web - both work for me

Just checked out a few forums, and we are definitely not alone. It is apparently a memory related issue. Apple are working on a fix for what seems to be called memory leakage. I've no idea what this means. In the meantime some peeps have found that clearing the Safari history,and cookie cache will help, as well as closing all the other apps that are open while using safari.

Apple are working on a fix for what seems to be called memory leakage. I've no idea what this means.

Basically, when you open a program it is assigned memory to run, once you have finished with the program and close it down the memory allocated is returned back to the operating system, sometimes programs when closed don't release that memory and that is what memory leakage is. Then the system has less available memory to allocate to other programs.

:D

Thanks for that. It kind of makes sense. Let's hope apple fix it. :thumb

Ps posted via safari after deleting history and clearing cookies. That's a first for a long time.

They better had! I have this problem with forums and iPad emails too. As I bought it for web browsing, social networking and emails I could be threatening 'not fit for purpose' since iOS 5 came out!:p1zzed:

Me too. Wasn't sure if it was something I was doing, but it looks like its something between safari and this site. Doesn't do it on other forums. iCab seems to work ok instead.

It's ios5 that is the problem, I've had the same problems since ios5 was installed when it came out. I have done all of the 're-install' etc that were recommended, then after using Tap a Talk for a few weeks, a friend said it's the apps that cause the problems. I then didd a fresh install from new again but this time I left all of the apps off so it was in theory 'factory fresh' it was still the bloody same.

I contacted apple support who went through quite a few things, then he said ' actually our engineers would like to see your iPad 2' they had it collected from me last week. I wrote a letter explaining all of the problems and which sites it is guaranteed to crash on, including this one. The iPad was returned two days later with "No fault found" ha, I thought, got home, went through all of the set up procedures 'again'. Logged on here and with 30 seconds it crashed again back to the home screen. I telephoned them again and now they have collected my iPad today and I am being sent a new unit as I refused to keep the existing one any longer as Apple had basically turned the thing into an expensive paperweight! My new one should be arriving tomorrow or Thursday, I'll let you know how it performs.

One thing I would say is that you MUST contact Apple support so they have numbers to go on otherwise it's all just here say.

UK: 0844 209 0611 5p per minute but worth it for results (I got them to call me back)

Hope it helps:thumb2

Bobble
Certainly would like to hear how the new one goes. Ours is actually new, we've only had it a couple of weeks, and like you say, expensive paperweight.

The wife bought it, and what she'll use it for it'll be ok, but my main thing was always going to be forums and ebay etc. This forum is worse than bikersoracle.

If you're replacement works better i'll chase them like you have.

I don't reckon it'll be any different, mine is exactly the same. Will be interested to see nonetheless.

I'll let you know how it goes, one thing they kept on about was saying it sounds like a hardware problem! I told her of the Apple support site that I have also commented on and said to date there had been over 17000 views about the iPad problems but she said it was all hear say unless peeps phone in with a problem :blast

Edit: I would just like to say that the people that I dealt with at Apple came across very helpful, intact the last person I was put onto even emailed me with there contact details should the next one not work. I was quite impressed, just pray it works:thumb

Looks like iCab is just as bad. I'm on the pad now and keeps crashing in both iCab and Safari! Had to give up in the end last night and fire tha lappy up. So far, it really is on this forum though!!!

This reply done by submitting first sentence, then the rest was added as an edit. So why does it crash in the original posting box, but not in edit?

You may find some of this interesting, well the last few posts..

It is true that the Tier I (regular) support folks don't know about this and many other issues. In reality, most of them don't have much technical expertise and I get the distinct impression that they don't receive much information from corporate on technical issues. They are basically there to support sales and that's about all most of them are good for. If they can't solve a problem by doing a reset, reload, or restore then the problem is out of their hands - you'll be told NTF (no trouble found) or the problem is on your end as was my experience.

While it is plausible for a restore to fix Safari related problems (there can be many), I can confirm that a restore will not fix the JavaScript bug in the webkit - the web foundation that Safari uses. The only workaround that I'm aware of is to use a 3rd party browser that does not rely on the webkit. Most 3rd party browsers that run on the iPad use the iOS 5 webkit so don't invest in a different browser unless you've confirmed with the developer that it doesn't use the webkit.

I noticed that a few other issues crept into this thread. There is a related thread that is more general and addresses quite a few different iOS 5 issues and offers some fixes to specific issues that might be valuable. The thread is here:

Edit: Over 21000 views on the above Apple support forum and Apple say there isn't a problem :blast:D
