Wide angle rear-view mirrors

Seem to remember something on here last year about using K or R1200 rectangular mirrors? Needed just a small amount of modification to make 'em fit.

Yep. K1200RS mirrors fit. You just need to file away a small part of the stem on the left mirror to allow the cold-start lever to operate.

A cheaper option would be those hugely extended jobbies that they fit to cars when they tow caravans..........but they may compromise your filtering abilities somewhat........:D

I used to use those stick-on wide angle mirrors you can get in Halfords (Paddy Hopkirk?). Cheap and cheerful but effective. Make sure the mirror is clean first and they'll stick just fine otherwise they fall off. Bottom of the mirror is the best position.

With a bit of adjustment of mirror and routine, they work well.

Spanish Bob & Yosi both tried to get them, but tell me that the mirrors I got from M&P...

...are now discontinued. Which is a shame, as they're excellent and seem to be exactly what you are after...

Mike:)

When you compare the bike mirros to the split focus ones on most cars, well, words fail.

Mike, your ones are the dogs, I'll try to find some. Failing that the sticky ones might do, but I found them to have too wide and angle with too small an image in the past.

BTW, extra upper panel on the hand-guards look good, are they home-made or store-bought?

Good luck finding them - as I said, Yosi & Spanish Bob tried to get them through M&P and were told they'd been discontinued. If it's any help, they're made by B&M, a German firm who actually make the original GS mirrors for BMW.

Fitting isn't quite straightforward - you need to replace the thread on the RH mirror with the same calibre as the original mirror (you can get away with leaving the LH one, but the RH fitting is very restricted). It's nothing a halfway competent machine shop can't cope with and will probably add £10 or so to the bill...

Mike:)

ps Hand protector extensions are a Touratech part - don't waste your money - they make no difference at all...:P

Wide angle mirrors on 1150GS

Did you ever get to find the wide angle mirrors from the German outfit? If so, I'd appreciate contact details.

PS I dont agree with the comment that the handgaurd deflectors are rubbish. I have them on and they make the difference between wet gloves and not. It depends on the angle of attack of the gaurds - mine are naturally nose down as I sit tall at 6ft 5ins.

just for you bin ridin:D :D :D

Don't listen to him. He's got hands like cows tits, there ain't a handshield big enough to protect them!:P

Plus sticking on those funny mirrors doesn't help!

Keep the standard mirrors, angle the handshield (with extensions) up slightly until the extension is close (but not touching) the mirror arm.

If you have 'normal' sized hands, at anything over 30mph they will stay dry.

Mike try cutting a two gallon plastic bucket in half and bolting half to each end of your handlebars!!!:D

I got a pair of the K1200RS ones and find them really excellent - expensive but have been worth it over the last 2 years riding.

I'm so good to you...

I've done a bit of research, emailing the manufacturer in Germany, and found that the British importer is Amba Marketing (UK) Ltd. I've contacted Ruth Casson, a director, and she says they have the mirrors in stock. Her details are below - hope this helps...

Hello Mike and co.

Firstly thanks for all the phone calls in regard to the Busch & Muller mirrors code 926/38TVM. Also thanks for the referal Mike. Usually Amba doesn't deal direct with consumers but in a situation such as this it is nice to be able to help out.

I have spoken with the Technical Director at Busch & Muller and he advises me that usually BMW mirrors have an 8mm thread. The above mentioned mirrors have a 10mm thread but can also be used. Would those of you wishing to make an order please let me know if you need the 8mm or 10mm version of the mirrors? We have the 10mm version here in the warehouse and can have some 8mm versions in end of next week.

I will try to contact Graham Perkins and Neil Ferguson who have already sent a payment but perhaps you or the others who have phoned would let me know what you need.

Thanks.

1100 GS?

Does anybody know if these will fit the 1100? I would be keen on getting a pair but unfortunately don't know anybody with an 1150 to check the fitment.

I know this makes me sound like a real Nobby no mates, but it is a small island!
