Not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm just taking this opportunity to say a HUGE thankyou to Caveman. :thumb :thumb

I bought a set of the crash bars, which were delivered exactly on time, as promised (along with a tank bag). Fitted the bars last night and they are class!!! Easy to fit and they actually will protect the bike in a fall.

Well pleased and worth every penny, highly recommended.

t :clap :clap :clap

Ditto... still want to know if the bars come up around the tank and protect it when the bike is dropped???

The SW-Motech bars are engine only, protect the heads very well, and have saved my bike a couple of times BUT......

The bolts supplied are of a rather soft material and at least one of mine is a bit too long (smaller bash-plate bolt). Having grounded on the engine material at the end of the threaded hole (while using the BMW torque settings because the bars instructions don't come with any), the darn thing is siezed tight. And since the material is a really quite soft and the Allen socket is mangled, it'll have to be drilled out. And before anyone gets annoyed or makes any accusations, I didn't do them too tight, use crap tools, fail to insert the Allen key correctly etc. etc. Quite simply, the supplied bolts are not of a great standard.

But I still think the bars are well worth the money!

Looking at the pics,I still can`t help thinking that there`s not enough cylinder head protection.
The horizontal bar over the rocker cover isn`t doing anything worthwhile where it is....surely it should be lower,in the area where the plastic pretend protector is fitted.
That`s where they hit the deck in an off.

Agreed, the main loop doesnt stick out far enough.

the fact that the bars are secured to the bash plate makes me apprehensive...

I have a set and dropped mine just yesterday up on the moor and the bars protected everything they should have. Very good bars IMHO but you pays your money and takes your changes. The Motech site says I think that the bars have been tested to TUV standards which in my book goes along way.

Nadeem, the bars don't actually "attach" to the bash plate, they're mounted to the engine at the same points as the bash plate, with a steel bar running underneath the plate to provide the strength & spacing to the bars. The bash plate itself isn't really mechanically involved except as a washer on the mounting bolts.

As for the bars being in the wrong place, nope. Mine's been down on both sides (please don't ask!!) with no damage whatsoever to the bike. Maybe if you lifted it into the air upside down and dropped it so a head landed on a wall......

As I said, the only issue I have with them is the quality of the supplied bolts. And if you can't manage to replace them from the local fastening suppliers for well under a hundred quid, then I think there's something wrong........

Could not link.....

Has anyone got a better link?
