A note for anyone who is tempted to fiddle with the throttle actuator cams on their 1200. The cables which control the cams are routed to a small black box where they are "attached" to a pulley. The pulley is turned by the the throttle twistgrip via another cable which goes into the black box.
If you fiddle with the cams, you can release the tension on the cables going into the black box, with the result that the cables can become detached from the pulley.
Needless to say, putting them back on again is a tricky task. See this thread.
Here's a piccy of the black box with the pulley removed at right angles to the box. The detached cable end is the gold thingy 1" to the right of my dirty finger.
Removal of the tank was required to get to the black box and sort this.
