Tom Tom Rider

Considering their website still says 'Quarter 3' and they haven't even indicated a release date I doubt it will be any time soon.

I have been waiting for it as well and this really annoys me. I think the company should get their arses in gear and increase visibility about the release date to us eager buyers because if I don't see something soon I will buy something else and I'm sure I am not alone. They've probably lost a lot of buyers due to this already.

I've been thinking the same, but I really like the 3D display, which I don't think Garmin offer yet ??, so I'll probably wait.

I've given up waiting and got a 2610 with which I'm very happy. I've used TomTom Nav 3 and 5 a fair bit, and tbh, never really used the 3D display, prefering the normal map view and translating it to the real world myself.

There are also questions as to whether you can connect the Rider to an Autocom/Starcom system. I emailed TomTom tech support back in early August but didnt get an answer.

I've used TT3 extensivly and never used the 3D function so I am not too bothered by it and from what I can see on the website there will be a way to connect it via an Autocom unit using the Bluetooth extention thingy.

I just wish they would give us an idea when it will be on sale. If there is no clear indicator as to when it will be on sale in the next 3 weeks then I am buying a 2720.

That's great, we see all this tempting stuff and are still unable to buy and have no idea when it will go on sale!

I know :(

The UK design company does now have a working production unit at their offices, but the meanies won't let me play with it. :(
Hopefully they should start appearing for sale soon. PB

I've also been eagerly following the non-appearance of the TomTom RIDER. I think they're starting to take the p!55 now. There's 8 days left of Q3 (which in itself is 92 days) and nobody knows when it's going to be on the shelves.

I'm currently running an eTrex Legend C, and whilst I'm very happy with the actual unit, I'm deeply disappointed in Garmin for supplying such a basic basemap (A5 through Milton Keynes isn't on it!) and asking for between £150 to £200 for "proper mapping" - that puts the £250 (ish) GPS up to £400 which is way more than a Quest is. :spitfire :spitfire

Therefore I'm eyeballing the Quest, or the Rider (don't want a 26??-series as they don't have built in battery). I'd like the Rider because of the accessories that comes with it, and I think the Bluetooth connection to the mobile is quite a cool feature. I also like the fact that it's Linux Powered.

However, the Quest is available in "any" store, and is probably going to be much cheaper....

TomTom is losing points every minute...

I like the look and spec’s of the tomtom and know the its allegedly going to be weather proof once available but can someone tell me if any of the others are waterproof. Noting that the tomtom is going to be £600, that’s a wad of money.

As Pauls says, as a rule of thumb, most Garmin models are waterproof, only the newer In-car only versions are not waterproof. But to be sure, read the specs on Garmins website. The waterproofing standard they use is called ipx6 or something...

Rider available soon!

Just read on the 'My tom tom go' forum that the rider will be available in the UK on tuesday 1-11-05. I think the price is about £587 and there is to be an optional car mounting kit so one system for bike and car!

Mmm, heard today that the TT Rider will be released at the Bikeshow. Woohoo, guess who'll be buying one!? :D

I'm not a great expert in TomToms, and have a 2610. But:
there was a comparison on Top Gear (I think) of a Tom Tom vs In Car OEM vs something else (not Garmin) and I was not impressed by the TT's mapping. Nor were they ! For example it didn't have the hotel they were looking for.
This is borne out by a friend of mine, who uses a TT in her car. Doesn't seem as good as the 2610.
