CUSTOM PAINT COLOUR - Value Affected?

Tomorrow, I collect my lovely new 1200GS. Ordered in Yellow with black & black (Although it's not as fast as the Red, apparently).

I really fancy changing the colour but wonder if it will affect it's resale value over and above the cost of re-spraying it back to original for the sale, what say y'all? Would a non-factory colour put you off buying a bike?

I'm fancying painting the beak, the tank and the optional rear side panels in Yamaha R1 Blue. Apart from me loving the colour, it's the same as my TourX. I think it may be a bit OTT to paint the side panels and "Beak Extender", but what do y'all think? Should look classy and different, innit?

I've messed about in Photoshop with variations on how I expect it will look, time to cast your vote . . . .

I'm wondering why someone would worry about resale value just as he's getting his new bike........

......anyway, we've painted about 80 R1200GS now, and those owners that have sold on tell us that the custom paint jobs have either enhanced the resale value or made no difference.

Private buyers seem to like non-standard colours whereas dealers taking PX seem to perefer them as standard....

Of course this depends on the chosen colour scheme....and on a couple of occasions we've been able to swap custom painted panels for standard colours, at very little cost, as we've happened to have some in stock.

FWIW I think the blue looks great but I'd leave the side panels black.

The usual reason given for being suspicious of a paint job is 'why was it painted?'. Was it to cover up a crash? If the rest of the bike is free of scratches, dents and bodges then you are probably fine on this.

Allegedly the manufacturers have spent a lot of time deciding which are the best colours for their models and so you could also make a bad decision by doing a respray. As you are steering clear of odd colours (pink / orange / purple etc.) and avoiding dodgy graphics (snakes / dragons / semi naked women with overly large chests) then I think you are safe on this too.

It'll look real good done right. Look at the one on Wunderlich's website, the WR one. Neat. Id hit it.
 
When in my dealers I noticed they are advertising a complete set of coloured components for the GS for £314, basically for those who fancy a change.

Personally I will stick with the "moonstone platinium" (granite grey oh come on! :D )
 
I don`t think it`s a major problem just getting the beak & tank cover painted, if I were buying a bike which had a full fairing that had been re sprayed then I`d think twice about it, crash damage, trackday bike or racer?

Yep, you've got me, it is your bike!

Jus was a good photo and so I picked it to play with the colours.
