This may have been posted on here before, but has anyone fitted the Adv screen onto the Gs ?.If so does it make that much of an improvment as to swollow the heart attack inducing price for all the bits and bobs  .Also prices please and where did you get them as i think some dealers are cheaper than others. Cheers.

GSA Screen onto a GS

Yes I have done this. There is plenty about it somewhere on this forum. It is a straight swop and the screen + support + longer 'adjusting screws', extra screws and washers and the two deflectors will cost you around £275 ( 400€ here.) It works well, looks good and is of course a genuine BMW part - if you think that is important.

My experience is that the Adv screen on its own is a little disappointing - buffeting increased over standard . Once the 'winglets' are fitted , however , the transformation is amazing . Lovely pocket of still air - can't believe how much of a difference those little things make .

I went the other way and fitted the winglets (about £37 with all fittings) first with just the standard screen and found little difference. Fitted the GSA screen a few weeks ago and the bike is transformed. Now cruising at 90/95 is easy and a real pleasure where 80 was a pain on the standard GS screen. If you push you should be able to get a 10% discount bringing the screen and extra fittings down to about £250. Fitting is a doddle.

Thanks

Cheers Guys, will phone a few dealers and see what prices they come up with.

Parts needed

I can, if you require , send you a list of parts; It is much easier if you have all the screws and washers and longer adjusting screws. e-mail me if you need it.

1x46637703196 screen
1x46637694395 support (screen brace)
1x46637653077 support plate (little black plaggie thingy)
1x46637653078 --------"------------- other side!
2x46627684546 Bolt (for new top mounting)
2x46637670459 screen bush
2x46612308549 washer

Thanks Geezer - now I recognize that it was your list that I gave to my dealer here in Lyon. Just a couple of points though: the adjusting screws on the Adventure (part no. 46637694397) are slightly longer (because of the added width of the support) . It is then easier to adjust the screen angle. It is worth fitting the deflectors as well - very easy and around £34.

Oil cooler mount

Got my dealer to price up Geeza's parts list (and Brian's longer screws) and was encouraged that the price came out as suggested earlier in the thread. However, thay have also advised me that the ADV screen is not compatible the existing oil cooler mount - which means that I will need to fit the ADV oil cooler mount. This bumps the price up considerably.

As I haven't seen any mention of having to replace the oil cooler mount in any of these threads before, I'm a bit confused and don't want to order any parts until I know exactly what I need.

Is there a potential problem with the oil cooler mount? Would be grateful if someone who has done the deed can put me right.

I've got (in my hand) a bit of paper from my BMW dealer in The Hague that has (according to him) all the parts required for an install of all 3 bits of plastic.

It's got 25 items on it.

The 3 big ticket items are the screen, the support bar, and another 175 (or 134) euro part.

I'm pretty sure that the third item is the internal support for the winglets... These bits of plastic are made from polycarbonate... if you lay your bike over, they won't break... if you just penny-washer them to the front body piece, you will rip the winglet out... costing yourself one expensive??? body piece.

My BMW dealer seemed to think that it was the instrument cluster/headlight mount (which would have been great because mine's dinged up from my Norway roll-over.)... however I priced that piece at about 500 euros...

So oil cooler mount (there is only one expensive piece, not two sides) sounds about right...

FYI all 25 bits come to a grand total of 694 euros... (INCL tax) That would give me all 3 bits of ADV windscreen mounted... "properly"....

I installed the Adventure screen with winglets on my '07. The winglets are held on with the OE screws and fender washers underneath to spread the load. I've gone over 100 mph for an extended period of time and nothing bad happened. I would be pretty surprised if the winglets pulled out with anything less than a tip over. They are in there pretty firmly. There are a whole bunch of guys on the other list that have mounted them the same way with no report of any problems. All I needed was the screen, winglets, support bar and various hardware bits. Without the winglets the Adventure screen is lousy as mentioned previously. As a package, the screen and winglets give a very nice ride.

Winglets

I agree that there seems to be no need for any further support than 'penny washers' for these winglets. When I ordered all my bits the storeman said the support brackets were important and I got those as well - but of course there was no where on the bike to attach them to. He gave me a refund of course. I suggested to the saleman (who I know well) that they offer the Adventure screen as original equipment as an option but he replied that for him (and the majority of French riders) the standard screen was high enough.

I have fitted the GSA screen and winglets onto my GS and am absolutely delighted with the result. The wings are fitted to the bike using penny washers and captive nuts. I got the chance to compare the fit and flex against a GSA and found slightly more flex on mine than the GSA. Interestingly, when I felt under the GSA I couldn't feel any support bar and it seemed to be fitted the same as mine. The extra stiffness on the GSA comes I think from the larger tank etc that gives the area some more support. Not only is the bike now a pleasure to cruise at around 90 but it looks right with all parts being BMW.

Verdict after a short 25 mile test ride after making the conversion is :thumb2 :thumb2 :thumb2

Looking forward to a proper run on it this week, but this could be the best mod for the bike. I know it is expensive, but it does the job and looks the business.

BMW Explorer

I had GSA screen and winglets fitted to my 07 GS by Jefferies. It certainly did make a difference from the standard screen on my 04 GS and now is quieter, more rain resistant and in my opinion looks great. Colour of the new bike is black with black side panels. Superb when the sun shines.

I saw on another thread that in Germany this version with an Akro exhaust was launched on Mar 10th as the 'explorer'. Ahead of the curve again folks.
