I'm just wondering what "add ons" others think they must have on their GS.

I'm considering at the moment, and as ever the majority of my wants / must haves are practical or save me time cleaning items.

Fenda extenda : ordered and waiting

Rear splash guard: I'll see how wet the pillion and luggage gets first!

Hugger: Looking like the Wunderlich is the only one available not to get slated, BUT, it's carbon fibre which I'm not keen on, and it's bloody expensive!

Oil cooler guard:

Tobinator: Are they any good I ask? Is the buffeting something I'll just have to accept will always be there to some degree? If I don't like it maybe I should have got an RT!

Hand guard spoilers:

Engine protectors: Got them in with the deal, so there's a few quid saved!

Rear brake pedal extender: It does seem rather small!

Extra luggage: Possibly a tank bag, but not one that is so huge that I can't see my clcoks and / or my Sat nav. Some of those clever Touratech panniers which fit on top of the GS paniers. Then the Mrs. can take even more shoes away with us!

One or two "guards" for switches etc.

That'll be £500+ then please!!

I did also rather like the Touratech Desertio or whatever it's called screen and fairing type gizmo, then I saw it was £400+ and thought the Mrs. might just ask why!!

Is there anything else I MUST have I wonder?

No must haves, but i was given a standard GS as a loan bike when mine went in for some work. I was actually a bit worried that I'd prefer the totally standard bike and then be pissed off and the time and money spent on mine... :)

However, I was happy to find that the standard screen is shocking in comparison to my Vario / Tober'd set up, the standard handlebars make you feel like you're on a chopper compared to my renthals and the lack of a rear hugger still sprays craps all over the back of the bike - easily taken care of by the wunderbra item. They'd still be my three "must haves" if i was getting another GS. Cylinder Head guards make sense too I guess.

Not fussed with the front fender extender and to me oil cooler grills and stuff like that are purely cosmetic (not neccesarily bad mind)

tyres, bars, engine, tank etc. - and a decent seat.

all the rest is self abuse to keep yourself happy.

oh - i see its a 1200 - AA card, warranty etc :dabone

You missed out the LED rear light! Give Nippy a call!
New seats? I really love my Sargents!
New can?
New plastic bits so you can have a custom paint job?

Don't lose sight of the objective which is to spend money, it doesn't have to be useful! :D :D :D

HUGGER!! I've now decided it has to have a hugger and soon. I rode home on some damp and at one stage mud infested roads to get home and find my new beauty absolutely filthy. The amount of muck it deposits on itself at the rear amazed me, the Mrs. won't like herself getting blathered that's for sure.

In my experience a hugger does nothing to keep the bike clean but it makes a huge difference in keeping your boots & legs clean! :thumb

Two problems wih that accessory.

1: The expense, it looks costly, and god only knows what the maintenance costs would be.

2: I've already got an older version at home (hope she never reads this post!!)

In no particular order;

Beak extender :)
Reyno Grill
Sedem screen :D
2wheelhumvee stickers :D
Headlight Grill
Gear lever enlarger :)
Fenda extender :D
Nippy norman £99 hugger (excellent) ;)
Karnevil swinging arm bung :D
GPS mount & GPS :)
Optional high seat :D

Wanted next;

Remus headers
Remus can (carbon or Titanium)
Brake pedal extender
Bt020 tyres
Muffs (come on Steptoe, work your magic!)
anything else that sparkles is expensive and can enter the garage without beibg detected by marital radar!

Thanks for that, I've not heard anyone comment on it, was begining to think the Wunderlich one was the only one to get positive comments. I prefer the plain black, and the £80 difference is pleasing to a Yorkshireman too!

Thank God I'm not the only one who things this way...

as for running and maintenance costs? dont you just replace it if it starts causing too much trouble, making the wrong noises or the new model looks better?

Damn sight more fun that a rear hugger... well I'd hug her rear amoung other things...

Essential items

IF you are not happy with the standard screen the Adventure screen is easy to fit, looks right on the bike and will cost you about £275. You will find life very calm behind it but may find yourself going into corners rather too fast!

I'd get some miles on it first and decide on what you want or need.

FWIW, I have (or had) the following:

- Front mudguard extender from NN
- Hugger from Motorrad Concepts. (Taken off now as last new rear tyre was rubbing against it)
- TT fog lights. Expensive. Not sure I'd recommend them.
- TT cylinder guards. Look nice I suppose. I hope that these will be OK and mean I don't "need" engine bars
- GPS: Garmin Quest and various bits from RAM and Migsel
- TT tankbag (haven't used it for months now as hard luggage is too flippin handy and useful)
- Remus Evo can. Very nice and one of the "musts" I think.
- Optimate  :(

That's about it. Next will be something to do with the screen. I have tolerated it for about 17k miles and now need to do something.

HTH

Kai
