Every Boxing day there is an unofficial meet of all things interesting, motorised. I.e classic cars, supercars, steam engines, armoured vehicles. lots of bikes, new & old. However it's pot luck on the day as to what arrives. Just posting to see if anyones interested.

Not really suggesting a ride out or anything, just advising that this is a good event, and gets you out of the house. I've got there about 11:00 before & it's packed, don't know what time it empties.

I go every year too but like you say you have to get there early.

Gets me away from the out-laws

Went for the first time last year. Seem to remember getting there about 10:30 and it being packed but worth it. :thumb

Wickham is about 4 miles up the A32 from Fareham in southern Hampshire.

The square is the old market place with a fair few Georgian buildings about.

I take my son there for a morning trip every boxing day as there is a cornucopia of all things mechanical there to take your fancy, from steam engines to classic cars and bikes, military vehicles and modified cars and vintage bikes to the latest sports machinery. The weather has been kind the last few years, it gets a bit fresh but if sunny its a nice day out after the xmas excess.

Do a Google search for "Wickham Square Boxing Day" and you'll get lots of club meets, forums etc mentioning it for some idea of how popular it has become.

It gets very busy, if going by car parking is not the easiest and the through road to/from Winchester is very slow if not closed and detoured by the Police for safety. Like everyone says, get there early if possible.

If going on 2 wheels theres a nice riding route afterwards up to the top of Portsdown hill via the Southwick back road for a cup o' tea and a view out over the Isle of Wight from Micks Burger Van (in the big car park by the Churchillian Pub and not the small one by the roundabout with dirty cups, YHBW !!). On a clear day you can see right up the Solent to Southampton Water, and the car park is usually full of bikes on Boxing Day.

Looking inland there is a nice view over the downs, it's worth a stop and look and there are some choice country lanes for a GS. :thumb

OK guys, how are we going to recognise each other? Mind you remembering how crowded it gets, the odds of bumping into a fellow tosser are remote. Be nice to meet wouldn't it?

I'm booked to have dinner at the River Inn in Bishopstoke at 2:00. So will have to leave about 1:00

Maybe?

I usually get leave from the wife on boxing day to go it alone, so might be able to ride down to meet you chaps. :thumb

Eliminator: you will need to adjust your signature because the quote "I think therefore I am" is not a quote from Sartre, but originally from Rene Descartes (a Frenchman). Sorry, a former philosophy student here! :nenau

meeting at 9.45 on portsdown hill at micks burger van if anyone fancies catching up first:D

Sorry Yoffi, got there late today. Saw a few GS's including a white 1150 with Tonkatech panniers covered in stickers from tours of S. America (lucky B'stard) and a new 1200 Adv. Also saw a Yellow 1200 with panniers and a black/yellow 1150 Adv. Hope you all had a top day out, I felt it wasn't as good as last years event.

met up with yoffi & a cup of tea at the burger van, then toddled off to wickham for a quick shufty at the vehicles. there were certainly a lot of them too.

saw the bestickered GSA, didn't stop just drove round. might have been my 1200GSA you saw, but not if it was parked :)

Good to meet you today Eliminator, even if it was only for a few minutes...was struggling to hear with the old earplugs in!
Thanks for flagging this event up, it was a nice little ride out and some great vehicles to be seen amongst the chaos :o)

Nice to welcome someone one from the site. I thought it was a good showing of vehicles, depends what time you arrive & what floats your boat. Seemed to be the biggest turnout that I've seen. I was there from about 11 to just gone 12.

Saw a few GS there. Always like to see a black 1150, who had one with the mesh headlight guard & system panniers?

Now that's what I call spokes.

Before anyone says it. the car, not the old biddy in the red coat:eek:

On a somewhat lesser note. There was an immaculate Morris Marina 1,8 TC  :(

The rest of the bike to go with the spokes.

I followed a similar bike when I left, only with a fatter rear tyre & wider bars, funny at the traffic lights watching him wobble about.

The corvette belongs to james martin and it was his first trip to wickham square, fair play to him as i only rang him the night before and happened to mention the meet:o

the fat harley belongs to malc who built it using an r1 front end and a hardtail frame by cobra.

1580 cc mated to a four speed kicker gearbox, not bad for a guy in his sixties:D
