Met a nice gent the other day called mike, former employe of rydales in cardiff, who is setting up on his own he is B M W Trained and has got all the tools and gismos to fully service any BMW. My mate had a service from him last week and saved himself a fortune. apparently he's doing good deals on tyres and free fitting, I'll certainly be giving him a call when i need some.
His No is 02920 565666/ mob 07843528377.

AL.

Just what we all need or will do shortly, and it will save taking a precious day of work to pop over the water to see the Brizztolians. It will nice to see if there is some more positive feedback. I could do the service myself ( well brother actually, Haynes manual yet?) as Gs12 is now out of warranty but its all the Gizmos needed to check all the gizmos that would of held me back
cheers for the heads up BigAl:thumb2

Well thats handy get the bike serviced and then pop over to Fairwater Garage for an MOT !

I put a thread on the Dealers section about mike and his new venture....cardiff mottorradddddd (who knows how this should be spelt??

anyway, he is a good bloke and does a top job of servicing my bike (gs1100)
and has done for quite a while now, at rydales way back and then in fairwater:augie more recently!
The family business has also been servicing my bmw motor too and I recomend them both ! (father and son!)

I know mike is still setting up tho' so not sure if he has all the computer stuff for gs12s yet, but imagine that they are on their way! hpe this helps

Cardiff Motorrad

Had a full service carried out by Mike at Motorrad before going to Morocco next month. What a nice guy, very willing and very capable.
Watched while he changed all fluids filters tyres. Valve clearances were all checked and adjusted. Spot on.
He even reckons to have a loan bike sorted soon, so people don't have to hang around!!!!
If you need servicing, do yourself and your wallet a favour. Forget Rydales, they never were that good anyway. I know it's the same guy doing the servicing but the price is right and there is something about working for yourself. Mike has a reputation to preserve. His own!!!
I will certainly be back.

servicing

I am due my latest service and the warantee ended last April! I am very interested in trying this. does anybody have a rough comparison quote between this and Rydale? (3rd service)

Might need some work doing as well as I am having problems with a "sticky gear selector" :(

Sticky gear selector? You been riding my bike? Mike's doing my 24K service and sorting the sticky selector out for me as well. I've been told the price (labour/parts/VAT) is less than Rydale would charge for just the labour without the VAT etc.

I asked the question in the technical section a week or so ago. Seems it's a common issue with the bush on the lever gunking (for want of a better word) up. Nothing major to worry about, just a bit of a pain to get to. It'll be a 5min job for Mike to sort out.

I, possibly like yourself, was thinking it was something nasty (nasty = lots of money) when I noticed it. Hopefully, that's not the case.

I just wanted to add a glowing report concerning my visit to Cardiff Motorrad today. Since finding out about Mike, he has been an excellent source of advice and has just done the 36K service and front discs change on my 1150GS.

I was greeted with a hot cup of tea and an enthusiastic chat about bikes. He rang me when everything was ready and even showed me the parts that had been changed. Top man! To cap it all, he follows the BMW service schedules and is happy to use BMW or non-original parts depending on price and customer requirements. All for a very reasonable cost i.e. £35 per hour labour rates. He only takes cash or cheques at the moment, but is hoping to get a machine for all you plastic fetishists in the near future. He also hopes to do MoTs in the future too.

All in all I was very impressed by his knowledgeable, efficient and friendly service. In fact, this has to be the most positive bike servicing I have ever experienced (something that Rydale never managed to achieve because customer service to them is holding you by your ankles and shaking until all your money and / or fillings have fallen out!).

He also gave me a few advisories and I shall be returning for a new battery next month.

We need to keep him going here in Cardiff, so remember to give him a try. I am sure that you will be as impressed as I am. Keep up the good work mate!

Hi guys
I took my GS 1200 to Mike last week for a 1200 mile service. I saved nearly £150 on Ryedales' prices. The bike was washed and waiting for me on time, rides like new again and I'm very happy. Its well worth a visit.

Hi Chunky1. Good to see you both at Pen-Y-Fan Tuesday, copy me in if you need an addition for a ride out, please.

Re: Mike
He serviced 3 BM's for me in Rydales over the past 6 years and was the techie I would seek out. Frankly, if he left Rydales and Rydales were still servicing bikes, I would still chose to go to Mike. Hope we can all keep him in profitable business. I don't do my own servicing at it is a great relief to be able to trust someone to do it properly.

cheers

Simon

Hi Bladerunner
Nice to see someone else with good taste on Tuesday. Keep scanning site for rideouts. They leave from MacDonalds on Junction 32 of M4 on Sundays monthly. One due in next 2-3 weeks.

Just a heads up.

I phoned to book my 1150 in for a service later this month. Mike is currently taking bookings for April 17th at the earliest. So, you need to get yourself booked in ASAP if you want a pre-summer trip service as his diary is filling up.

He hopes to have a loan bike soon. He should have a credit/debit card facility starting next month.

Seems good prices on tyres too, just been and had a set fitted. Tightened up a leaky plug for me too FOC.
Very good, I certainly will be going back for service.

Cardiff Motorrad Rocks!

Just wanted to add my name to the list, and thank Mike for the enthusiastic and welcoming way he greets his customers. What a refreshing change to deal with a really great bloke who actually cares about what he does. I'm new to GS's, but servicing and repairs have always been a source of anxiety for me.Not any more! Its a real pleasure to deal with the guy. He sorted out a curious misfiring problem on my 1150 Adventure, and now the bike rides beautifully. It's worth supporting Mike- my bike will not be going anywhere else!
