Good, with any luck the apathetic bastards will have to spend a fortune correcting their crap ABS servo brakes. Their arrogance in ignoring the obvious amazes me, how can any one make a system that can fail under so many possible circumstances, age being a major consideration for the future.

BTW: This Article is on page 70 of the print edition (Monday) titeled "BMW: Pannen bei Motorradbremsen" NOT under the Automobile/Technology heading but the economy/management!

You also get this NEWS MAGAZINE on MONDAY at every Airport, Railway Station and int. Kiosk as print edition.

Unfortunately, not all of us can speak German.
Would it be possible for you to provide a full translation of the article,it would enable us to understand the situation more fully.

There is no new information for you. New is that this article exists.

But I have questions that I did not found there:

Seriously: How come that this shit passed QA (engineering standards) and got into production? Seriously: This backup hydraulic mode / residual brakes suck! Only engineers that dosn't understand anything from riding could do that to riders! Seriously: This is crap, shit, filth. This is a shame! At least it's dangerous and life threatening in it's effects under real world condition (not that baby stuff on parking lots for 'testing purposes' BS).

I do know what I am talking about (others don't). And I am sure not alone. At least in Germany we have an instructor (Motorcycles) that nearly crashed. He's mentioned in the article DER SPIEGEL No. 27/2005 (p. 70):

So what are the warning signs to look for if system is failing then? What has actually happened?

He states: We had an instructor that nearly crashed.
Doesn't that mean he didn't crash and the residual braking 'saved' him?

I think it should be Dr ABS's job to avail us of the information in a manner we can all understand!
How do we know the articles are saying what he decides to tell us they're saying?
I think I'll find a bit of chinese newspaper text and post it here entitled 'Chinese engineers vote the BMW braking system the safest in the world' then ask everyone to write a letter to BMW thanking them for giving us their invention.
How many people would believe me?

Here you go...

not too pretty I'm afraid - Babelfish German (with apologies to Robert 'Bald Mountain' Kahlenberg :P ) :

Motorcycle manufacturer BMW has obviously substantial problems with his brake systems. The so-called integral ABS strengthens the braking force electrically and is a blocking of the wheels to prevent. With this system are already equipped over 200.000 machines of the heavy series. After with safety training courses two participants with their BMW machines had fallen General German Automobile Association, the federation demanded an explanation. BMW protested, brake training represents a "special situation", because the repeated vollbremsungen led to "extremely high requirements of electric current". The battery is overloaded, braking force reinforcement and ABS function failed in the consequence. More than 20 drivers deplored problems with the brake assembly after information of the manufacturer so far. Thus a Mainzer driving teacher reports, also with its BMW motorcycle suddenly braking force reinforcement and ABS failed. In the first moment appear the brake totally defectively. It reacts only to very strong hebeldruck and is only with difficulty to be dosed. Another BMW customer indicated the manufacturer after a similar experience. The residents of Munich public prosecutor's office accepted determinations. The plaintiff refers to an internal E-Mail, in which itself Robert bald mountain, director/conductor of the quality assurance with BMW motorcycle, about which "weights unsatisfactory condition of the complexity of our brake system". Simple the problem is hardly to be solved. "an accuracy of entire production is not guaranteable. The system is insufficiently conceived in his effects and relapse levels ", writes bald mountain.

Technical Experts engaged by the Prosecutor

NEWS:

Obviously an affected rider complained at the German Federal Criminal Prosecutor (from news paper Berliner Morgenpost):

"Staatsanwaltschaft untersucht BMW-Motorräder"

The prosecutor engaged a technical expert to determine if there are problems with the brakes. The prosecutor said that that if there are they have to look after similar cases - but they are just at the beginning.

Clucking Bell!

If they are "just at the beginning" what will you be like once they hit their stride!

SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG PAGE 1 !!!

German newspaper SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG on page 1 of the print edition:

Danger

Don't have the time for complete translation but according to this article fact is:

1) KBA is investigating

2) Prosecutor will engage a technical expert (licensed at court)

Annotation: KBA is investigating the third time! This article in SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG is one of the best (informativest) articles I read in newpapers / news magazines about the topic. This article may be direct consequence of the article in DER SPIEGEL No. 27 on Monday. In addition the SÜDDEUTSCHE ZEITUNG mentions the TV show PLUSMINUS today in German TV ARD, 09:55 pm: Are BMW Motorcycles dangerous?

So nobody's actually found anything wrong yet?
Or at least nothing that the back-up system hasn't coped with?
We're lucky that we've Dr ABS on our side!:clap

Experts demand recall! Failures will increase in the future!

BTW: Nearly every German newspaper and business paper and also nearly every press bureau was reporting today about the theme BMW - ABS - PROSECUTOR.

I found a paper about the stock market where they explainded losses of BMW because of these articles.

Dow Jones Newswires

Dow Jones Newswires asked today BMW (Manager Magazin, Germany).

"Wir haben kein technisches Problem vorliegen, deswegen werden wir auch nicht zurückrufen"

=

"We do not have a technical Problem, therefore we will not initiate a recall"

The press in England and America was full of tales about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction but nothing was ever conclusively proved.
The press will write about an investigation which has yet to reach a conclusion, their reporting it doesn't illustrate that the negative claims have been proved or otherwise.
The press has a lot of empty pages to fill everyday!
Can we now just sit back and await the outcome before jumping to conclusions?

No.

The German Federal Criminal Prosekutor seeks for similar cases! And the ADAC (german auto club) started a survey for BMW riders.

If affected riders just sit back nothing will happen, both prosecutor and ADAC need the support of BMW riders.

Some folks in France stated aktivities, too. You may know about that. If not - you will be informed at the right time.
