Lancashire are running a new “BikeSafe Incentive Scheme” this year:

1. The first part of the initiative is for the interested rider to attend one of the 2016 Lancashire BikeSafe workshops:

Interested riders simply need to log on to the national BikeSafe website (www.bikesafe.co.uk), and book onto one of the 6 Lancashire BikeSafe workshops running throughout 2016 at Garstang, Tarleton or Hyndburn fire stations, which cost £25.

The BikeSafe input is a full day programme which will start at 09:00 at the designated venue.
Each date will be based on a nationally produced DVD, which standardises the learning around the country. It is designed to promote thinking around biking scenarios and discussion within the group.

The day will be split into

• Classroom inputs and discussions
• Observed ride out with a mix of observers from the Police, IAM and RoSPA
• First aid input

The morning will be classroom based in the venue. The group will be split in the afternoon so that half the group can do the observed ride and the others have the first aid input and then the groups will be swapped round.

2. The second part of the initiative is for riders who wish to go on to complete further Advanced Motorcycle Training with the IAM, or RoSPA:

Lancashire BikeSafe have received funding from the Lancashire Partnership for Road Safety (LPfRS) for the following BikeSafe Incentive Scheme:

LPfRS are providing a partial refund of £75 to each rider who successfully completes an “IAM Skills For Life course”, or a “RoSPA Advanced Riding course”. Only riders who go on to complete one of these advanced riding courses as a direct result of being signposted on to further training during a Lancashire BikeSafe workshop will qualify for the partial refund.

In practical terms – interested riders would need to attend a BikeSafe workshop; then subsequently complete the desired IAM/RoSPA course, after-which the funding is available for Lancashire BikeSafe to provide the £75 partial refund once the respective IAM / RoSPA club confirm that the individual has completed their course.

When I last checked the BikeSafe website one of the six BikeSafe Workshops was fully booked, so if you want to take advantage of the above offer don't hang about!
