I was just out in the garage doing a bit of work to the bike and I happened to notice that the pin that holds the passenger foot peg in place was quite far out from where it should be.
On looking further I discovered the retaining clip that should be on the underside of the pin was missing. I also checked the opposite side and it too was missing.
Had a look at friends 1250GS who keeps her bike in my garage and one of them was also missing.
Maybe worth having a quick look at your bikes to check this, especially those who ride two up.
Both bikes haven't been through anything so arduous that should cause this to happen.

Those c-clips ping off fairly easy with a slight nudge in the right place.

That happened on one side of my Guzzi V85TT. German and Italian platform sharing 🤔

The clips that BMW use are ridiculously thin and easily snap - (check your rider pegs as well). I bought replacement ones from a local supplier rather than a dealer, and they are much more substantial. Still carry a couple spare though "just in case"

I got my 1250GS in March. At the 600 mile service they noticed this clip was missing from one of the rider’s footpegs and replaced it. Last week whilst I was out I noticed that one was missing again from the rider footpeg, but not sure if it’s the same side. That’s 2 gone in 3 months and only 3,500 miles. I’ve never lost one before.

I guy i work with had his peg leave the bike while on a ride home after work..

New pin & clip required

change it to a circlip and you'll be ok. They're not a super odd size, so most kits will contain the one you need.

A circlip will be a lot more secure than an E clip. You can get them for pennies from any engineering supplier

My RT failed its MoT last year because the circlip on one of the rider pegs was missing. :eek At a shop I've been using for twenty years! To be fair, there was another issue with the front brakes which I had fixed at a local specialist. He noticed the missing clip and replaced it without being asked and charged not a penny. I'm using another place for MoTs these days ...

Had the same problem with the front foot rests.
Fixed now. Drilled, fitted a washer and split pin. Those flimsy circlips are not up to much.

I started this thread just to highlight to others that this may be similar on their bikes and to check it.
Don't fancy a foot peg getting caught up in the spokes.
As suggested, a circlip would probably do the job.

The T*$ at my local dealers ,failed me on my mot for that very thing ,
Rather than stick a new one in and charge me he made me re-book another mot
Twat!!! He has moved on !!!!

your right they do,i have replaced a few now,so i bought a bag of 10 ,ebay
Thats a good idea, think i'll buy a pack. Could you tell me which size fits ? i've already had one make a bid for freedom which was spotted by the dealer and replaced FOC, what a bargain...... lol
