Recently aquired a Garmin Quest but cannot get the software to load.

I uninstalled the USA version after returning home and have never had a problem getting the disk to install.

However, first "mapping software installation disk" starts off well but when it is prompted for the first of the 2 disks for Mapsource, the installation fails at that point.

Have uninstalled and retryed twice but it always fails at first disk. Have tryed to install from first disk instead, but this refers me to the start up disk instead.

I have Windows XP and it looks like a Mapsource version 6 of european maps.

Why am I trying to change the preinstalled maps. Well I drive into Germany once a month at the moment and the Base map is ok but I would like some more detail

Can anyone help?

Nick

I would go into the "control panel" and delete all Mapsource programmes, and then try the "use this disk first" disk and see what happens. BTW Windows seems to throw up wrong warnings when using multiple Mapsource disks, ignore them, but follow the Mapsource requests.

That's what I am doing

I have tried that, and am in the middle of doing it again. I am back at install the next disk and it has stopped again!

Not really sure whether it will work, I am begining to wonder if the disk is duff?

Used to experience lots of fun and games with City Nav 5&6 which were 2 CD installs. Essentially caused by the Installer Program prompting for Disc 2 yet still hanging on to CD1 and getting into a tiz when you swapped over.

I seem to remember having to swap the disks 3 maybe 4 times each install and always finishing an install by prompting for disk 1 again at the end.

Thiunk you'll find it's your PC. I had exactly the same problems with my discs. Had my PC "cleaned up" by a man who can and it worked fine there after.

What exactly did he clean? Did you have 20gig of porn or was it something to do with Mapsource?

Cheers:D

40 Gig actually.:augie

Basically it was stripped to the bare bones, software wise, and so XP was re-installed as were the basic programmes such as Word, Outlook Express etc.
Bit like a spring clean, after that it ran fine.

Ok do a disk clean up, and defrag, you will find them in you start menu, under accessories, system tools.
Make sure everything to do with garmin is deleted in your control panel, uninstall
Open up c: and delete your garmin and mapsource files
Then run %temp% and delete any files in there.

Then try the install again
