A steady tour of Scotland

Day 1 – 11/8/06 – 195 miles - Sunny :)
Left the former Socialist Republic of South Yorkshire, deciding on a scenic route .
A628 Woodhead Pass then over Holme Moss, Saddleworth Moor before heading north via Keighley to pick up the A65. A quick stop a Devil’s Bridge and on via the Southern Lakes to stay with Roger of RGM Motors, the Norton dealer, in Beckermet. No need for lights here as we are the next door neighbour of Sellafield  .

Day 2 –12/8/06 – 165 miles - Sunny :)
Left Beckermet for Carlisle then on to Gretna Green, where we picked up the Solway Coastal route, via Annan, Caelaverock Castle, Dumfries. Following the coast we continued through Dalbeattie, Auchencairn and Kircudbright before joining the A75 to Newton Stewart and on to camp at Glenluce. A good site set within a walled garden with swimming pool and spa, but a £15 a night for a tent and two people a bit pricey.

Day 3-13/8/06 – 90 miles - Sunny :)
Even after the shock of experiencing my first night in a smoke free pub we decide to stop another night at Glenluce and explore the Mull of Galloway. Through Stranrear we visit

Day 6 –16/8/06 –150 miles - Sunny :)
After passing two deer on the road at Lochranza we board the Claonaig ferry over to Kintyre, were we pick up the single track road south to Campeltown. Worth it just to experience the ride up the A83, with it’s views of Gigha, Islay a d the Paps of Jura.
We continue by Tarbert, Lochgilphead then pick up the A816 to Oban. Here we meet two lads from Wigan ( Transalp / Africa Twin ) returning from John O’Groats. We share a taxi ( £6 ) from the campsite ( £11 per night ) to the town and have a few beers.

Day 7 –17/6/06 – 127 miles – Sunny :)

Continue north via the Falls of Lora on the A828 to Ballachullish and Glen Coe. Then it’s a quick blap round the Kinlochleven loop, well it would be rude not to. From here we pushed on to Fort William, where we we were joined by Baggy on his R1150R for a couple of days. We continued up the A830 before doubling back on the A861 to South Garvan, passed the Corran Ferry and on to Strontian. Great little camp site at £4 per person with fresh eggs from the hens that ran round the tent and fires allowed. All well and good till I returned from the pub and decided to pour a pan of red hot fat over my thumb !!!!! :spitfire

Good idea at the time !!!! :spitfire
