Thinking of treating myself to a "scrambler"

The great thing is that any extras fitted you can ditch and sell

That particular bike has an accessory seat worth about £150, Rack £40, Pannier Rails £30. Even the OE speedo & revcounter are worth about £300 so you could swap them out fir a neat little chromed speedo etc

Get rid of all the OE shite and make yourself a nice little bike and there are some great sites about for 'borrowing' ideas from :thumb2

Picked mine up 2 weekends ago

and had to go to Canada the morning after whilst it was roasting here :-(

Anyway, first impressions very favorable. Its not a flying machine but nor did I expect it to be. It has a much smother engine than I imagined and plenty enough torque. I was pleasantly surprised b the sound of the standard exhaust although have ordered an Arrow 2-1 pipe and a single seat. Got the pipe for about 530 GBP off Ebay new which is a good saving and it is so light its amazing.
It will need a re-tune I think so may get an adaptor and some software or even get Triumph to do it at the 500 Mile service. The standard pipe got quite warm which was great when it is chilly but I can imagine that's going to be very toasty wants it gets into the summer months.

The gear box was a bit notchy at first and hard to find neutral s I adjusted th egear lever position and it s so much better but still a little notchy. Our man Shep noticed that he gaitors had been fitted incorrectly so I pulled them up all the way. The standard suspension is a bit bouncy so I'm going to have a play with it and then if not better will get some progressive shocks... I do like the Ohlins.....

I was going off for an overnight ride tomorrow but have been asked to work so maybe another day.

I also ordered some Black heat tape for the exhaust header and will fit that on Saturday if it is here by then........ Just need a Steve McQueen leather jacket and some barbed wire:D

Hi Andy
What do they really ride like?
What's their 'comfortable' cruising speed ?
Are they torquey or need frequent gear changes to keep the motor spinning ?

They ride nice although completely different to a GS of course. The rear suspension is a bit bouncy but I have yet to play with it but confident I will get a set of Ohlins. Th exhaust does force you to have your right leg out a little further than ideal however I have the Arrow pipe ready to fit and will let you know what that is like when fitted and remapped. I can't comment too much just yet on comfy cruising speed as I'm still running it in but I recon it can hold 75 easily all day so that will be fine for me. I guess 2 up and loaded with luggage it may start to get under powered but I just bought it for local runs and trips off road however fully confident I can go all the way across the USA if I have time..... I'll keep the reports coming as I get used to it more.

The biggest drawback is.

I didn't get the 2014 model in Blue with Black wheels and bars as they looks just so nice....

I really like this look below and aim to finish up with something similar :thumb2
