Tour de Yorkshire 2015

Whatever the pros/cons...roads/tourism....etc ...etc...Just looking out of the window and it DOES look like a nice day for it up here...:)

Can't wait to be honest......:thumb2

Enjoy your weekend for those that are watching it/involved in it (I'm off to Liverpool but will be back for the event coming through my area with or without the Mrs:D

Ain't that the ferking truth.....Same shite going on in Whitby.....Have you noticed how the cats eyes have been removed, then filled with Tarmac.....Going to be chaos re fitting em..Just to panda to the Lycra clad freeloaders....

So you're complaining about the roads being fixed (probably out of a Tourism budget) and you'd prefer to just leave them covered in pot holes? The words cut, nose, spite and face spring to mind!

(probably out of a Tourism budget)

That,ll be a guess then...

Resurfaced a roundabout (on route) which was done 18 month ago...:thumb...Non route roundabouts n roads still feked....:thumb
Schools closed for the day...along with a lot of local traders who are feked due to the road closures, towns also closed to traffic 12 till 5.... ??...Lot of people making a lot of money out of it....not so many local though...;)

The pro peleton ride much worse conditions that our roads -

If the surface has been resurfaced it's because there was a dangerous pothole, or idiotic local management, not the cyclists insisting on a racetrack smooth road.

Fantastic first day of racing - watched it all on Eurosport and it was another excellent advert for Yorkshire :)

Watched it go through Rosedale this afternoon, I think there where more motor bikes than pushbikes, Police where having a good craic with the spectators as they pulled up to block the roads.

Hi,

Big of a late reply, but I usually only read ride reports...... I'm project managing the Tour de Yorkshire for Welcome to Yorkshire and ASO. I was also Safety and Security Director for the Grand Depart and for the 12 years prior to that organised and led the Police Central Escort Group, the National team that moves the Tour of Britain, Olympics etc..... (I never did bikers honest!)
Would there be any interest in a social gathering where I'd be more than happy to pop along, drink beer and do bit of a chat around what it's all about. (I like the sound of my own voice ;-) )
Happy to do if there's any interest, happy if not.

Hi Bob
Stage looked good today but some of the CEG need to be looking in the mirrors more for the riders, they'll learn eh

Hope you're well

Right, first off, those of you miserable whinging feckers...leave now :D, go on out of the room :p.

Close the door I can still hear you

As an aside - don't know where the cats eyes were removed...but...if you're lucky it's cause they wll be surface dressing imminantly, and I bet you'll love that even more

Anyway - bugger off and lets share some love ;)

Stage one Hartoft

Bev and I took P Diddy out for a run round, intended getting to Cote de Danby but took a long approach up via Blakey and Bell End :augie and Rosedale.

Loads of folk out on 'proper' bikes - we'll use ours for York Saturday as we wanted to see them on our roads, but also the finish which we have not seen before.

Realised by Pickering we might end up in the rolling closure (very short on-route by way, limited disruption) so turned back to Harfoft to watch them come up the tough little rise there.

Nice and friendly, good group of folks even just there - very enjoyable.

The 'Ram' put on an excellent show - class outfit eh! Many complaints from other bikes that he'd be passing them :clap

Then the breakway then the peleton. Great to see so many young faces in there, lots of young local lads have got the opportunity to ride with the big guns. class.

All passed fairly quickly and road open again (for all the moaning 20 mins after looked ike nothing had happened!)

Few pics

Stage 1 finish Scarborough

On to Scarborough and easy enough to get to above the finish. Parked up on a broad pedestrian area and a community support officer had a chat rather than to move us on.

We managed to get a perch right by the finish line and were treated first hand to a great view of the action. What great weather and a great setting - chilly mind!

Saw the presentations before cutting round towards Sandside where the closure was still on, but soon to be lifted. Waited a few mo's the managed to get down and park up ready for some chips before getting home to watch the highlights. A few more pics.

It was agreat day, lots (I mean LOTS) of folk had a really great time and unboubtavbly more people spent more money than on any normal Friday.

Even put a bike shot in for you - drafted in from round the country, Cornwall and everywhere - some of the press corp where on their Frenchie machines.

Not the same as last years TdF, but a great example of Yorkshire hospitality. Sound :clap

Off on 'real' bikes to see todays now :thumb

It bonkers out on the roads at the moment as there are hundreds of cyclists riding the route. My wife's just taken our daughter to work at The Box Tree restaurant in Ilkley and nearly had a head on collision with one of the support bikes who was overtaking a group of cyclists around a bend near our house

We've had a constant stream of ameteur club cyclists coming by here for the last hour or two "warming" the road for the racers later. I reckon there's been several thousand through today
