sluggish starting

My yr 2000 R1100GS has developed a starting problem since being unriden for a few weeks. The motor now turns really but slowly and although she always seems to start, it doesn't fill me with confidence. I assume a rewind of the starter motor will sort it out but wondered if anyone is familiar...
