I'm struggling to understand why some of you guys get so uptight about an owner spending on their bike, or doing things with their bike that differ to what you may consider acceptable

Biking is commonly about doing things differently - why is it acceptable in your minds to tart up a sports bike with bling but not a GS? Or maybe it's just a few fairly narrow minded individuals who have bigger balls because they take their bikes on bigger trips? Said narrow-minded individuals usually struggle to get on in life as well and have a desire to be keyboard warriors instead
I don't do bling on my bike, but likewise I don't take it off road and have no intention to do so. I do wash it though and keep it in a condition that's as close to new as possible. It has like many had a few added extras - crash bars because I'll inevitably drop it, bigger screen because it's more effective, sat-nav because I struggle to use a map when I'm moving, etc. Everything has a practical reason.
But that doesn't stop me from understanding that an owner may want to add something simply because it looks tarty, bling or whatever, however useless it might be. Think you might find the folks at BMW think that way as well and tend to put a lot of thought into colour schemes, special editions, the Triple Black, accessories etc. This might of course suggest that to take an arrogant "just ride it and get it dirty" point of view would put some of you in the minority. But ho hum, it takes all sorts to make a world. And now I'll get of my soap box!
As an aside, some info for the OP ... be aware that exhaust wrap can cause a massive increase in the heat retained in the head/valve area and also downstream, usually at the cat. I've used exhaust wrap on 2 occasions in car engines, and in one case the additional heat in the head was enough to melt the mounting points of the plastic timing belt cover - a normally aspirated 1900cc putting out 244bhp so not lowly tuned, but a problem nonetheless. If everything else is perfect you might get away with it but with the history of valve-head breakages on the R1200 I'd certainly reconsider the merits of it.
