a good indicator of a bike's longevity prior to service is the oil capacity --
the DRZ is 1.9 quarts
the KTM is 1.2 quarts

and have you ever changed the oil on a KTM ? well, its not as easy as the DRZ, lemme tell you that much. I've had my DRZ for over 2 years now -- and the valves have been in spec EVERY TIME I've checked them....

One's on-road experience is going to be determined by your gear ratio. it's tough to say which bike is more comfortable on road, but my preference would be with the DRZ. the ktm has a higher top speed, but that doesn't make it any more comfortable than the drz or able to handle those top speeds for long distances.

"lets not forget the weight...
KTM - 250.3 lbs (dry)
DRZ - 262 (dry)

not much of an advantage on the KTM side, although you are gaining 125 cc's.

i think it comes down to practicality. a dual sport bike is a bike that you want to last long intervals between services and a bike that can offer easy access to parts while on the road. and let's not forget the price of these machines...

all in all, I think the KTM 525 exc is wonderful, high performance bike...but, the stone-cold reliability and riding enjoyment that comes from the DRZ is what made me purchase yellow over orange."

The DRZ is the only bike that The Fist has not blown up since he's been on AdvRider. This is all you need to know about Suzuki reliability.

I'm not after a dual sport bike I want a focused enduro bike that's why I'm in the market for a 525 it's the offroad ability I want.
I'm not worried about the servicing I can do that all myself I usually strip my bikes after a run at the weekends anyways.
A 525 will more than likely bite me a few times but I've managed ok on the GSA you can still remember the Cambrian overtake :augie
a 250 or 400 would probably me more sensible and easier to handle but where's the fun/challenge in that.
So it's a 525 for this kid hopefully:cool:

Just sent Forry a pm
