£24,000 for an Airhead G/S

The clever one here is the seller as he is asking for the value of the bike plus the next 10 years appreciation. The buyer will need to keep the bike for many years to see any significant return on his investment, other than the pleasure of ownership, of course.

Also, he can't use it, otherwise it becomes just another R80/gs.... In which case just buy any old G/S.

Best keep my 5k mile R100GS tucked away nice and warm. :D

It’s like this RC30....seriously overpriced and totally useless bar being an ornament.

When I bought my PD g/s it was worth more because it was modified, now it’s worth less because it’s been modified - Still love it though.

That’s always the way. When your buying it’s a sellers market when your selling it’s a buyers market. While I think the r100 gs is a wonderful machine having had one which I don’t regret selling the money is frankly redlicious. There will be a bust once speculation starts. JJH

The arse will fall out of the market sometime. JJH

As sure as night follows day and I wouldn't want £24k 'invested' in an airhead G/S when it does

Like the classic car market, it can fall

Reality is most of us are 45-50 + and there are not many youngsters following us into biking - so the classic market isn't sustainable long term

Exactly :thumb2

Bikes were built to be ridden, crashed, modified, raced. Look at what Mikeyboy does (and what you've done with your bike), that's what it's all about.

Not to sit as a flipping investment, unused incase too many miles go on them............I really do think anybody that does that is a wanker. A nerd that should stick to stamp collecting.

Yes a standard one is just another boring bike for someone to spend their pension on, think I paid £2,200 for mine and was a great fun bike :beerjug:

A lot of enjoyment can be had from a recommissioned ornament once the owner gets fed up looking at it. JJH

Like Timolgra I paid a around couple of thousand quid for a G/S PD, as a rider. One owner, with receipts for every cent spent, as the owner bid nothing himself!

Mods have been confined to things that actually improve handling / performance, or to replace things like fat bars , aftermarket seats , faring's, handguards ,etc, with stock bits which actually work and look better than the bling they replace.

Current market value is around ten thousand dollars, the last one on Ebay which was bid to $17,000- but did not reach reserve changed hand privately, to the highest bidder who had bid $8,900- so that auction result is just hogwash and a silly attempt to create a false market.
But, at 480,000 km my bike is well worn, and if a pro mechanic was to go through it and rebuild everything I can see that he would have to sell it for nearer $20,000- to get any return for his work, so no problems with Gary's usual 12,000 quid for a rebuilt bike.
But this one is 10,000 quid to expensive!
And yes, stock bikes sell better than Frankenbikes, you only have to ride + both to know why!

Is nobody going to contact the vendor and tell him that it’s, “Overpriced, mate”. Surely somebody should and must?

As a matter of principle, if someone will pay that for it, surely that's what it's worth?

That’s correct. But it’s only worth that because it’s perceived as an investment. It’s real worth is nothing like that. The “investor” is going to find that out sooner or later. JJH

I'd rather invest in an old sweater. I believe they're bringing good money these days.:)

Worth and value are time elastic concepts .
A " thing " is worth what someone perceives and is willing to pay --- at that time .
The same thing may , be / have , a greater or lesser worth in a future time - Tis a gamble of investing .
